I was surprised how the voices of these popular singers blended so beautifully with Pavarotti's opera-trained voice. The arrangements are all beautiful. Cheryl Crow and Celine Dion's duets with Pavarotti display standing-ovation talent! You cannot go wrong with this fascinating blend of voices from different genres (rock, country, easy listening, etc.) We absoultely loved it!

This is a really great DVD for fans of great singing. Great performances including Sting, Eric Clapton, Mariah Carey, and Andrea Bocelli. Also includes unquie performances from Bon Jovi, Elton John, Annie Lenox, and James Brown. I have to say that Sheryl Crow's performance was wonderful...I had no idea she had chops like that.

This DVD is a compilation of duets with Pavarotti and various "pop" stars of the 80's - 90's(plus JB) singing (non-cheesy)orchestrated versions of the stars' hit songs w/ some classical duets thrown in here and there. Each star does one song. This DVD concert was not shot in one evening or even one year. I sort of guessing here, but this DVD appears to span 10-20 yrs, so some of the singers & songs you may not have heard in quite a while, however; assuming you listen(ed) to the radio or watched MTV back when they actually played music..., they should all be familar to you. I think everybody does a decent job considering they are so very out of their element - some do better than others and some really hit the nail on the head! You can tell practically every star is a bit intimidated and rightfully so. I actually find it refreshing in a way...All practically "bow" so to speak, in the presence of what many consider to be the greatest singer in our lifetime. I love though, how Pavarotti helps ease their tensions with his warm personality, graciousness and that smile - probably having never even heard many of these songs he's singing before let alone knowing who some of these stars even are...(cue the tele-prompter). I had originally bought this just to see Pavarotti sing "This is a Man's World" with James Brown. That is well worth the price of the DVD alone! Maybe the oddest duet of all time..., but they do a truely excellent & memorable job!!! JB appears to be so very humble as does Parvarotti, not just with JB, but throughout this entire DVD. I first watched their duet on YouTube and that subsquently caused me to buy the Duets DVD. I'm glad I did! There are also some other stand-out duets.
For the audiophiles & videophiles, this DVD shouldn't disappoint. Even though this DVD appears to span a couple of decades, James Brown's performance for example, looks exceptionally crisp, as does the Eurythmics', just to name two off the top of my head. They look great on my 72" screen. I'm assuming that when Pavarotti is sitting while singing, these would have been from more recent performances and would tend to have slightly better video quality. Some of the older performances, judging by the "less aged" looking stars, Pavarottti is standing and presumably healthier...The old stuffy Pavarotti fan might scoff, but the open-minded music lover will love this DVD and just might find themselves singing James Brown AND Pavarotti's version of This is a Man's World from now on...I know that has been the worm in my ear for months now lol. Now I have to wonder how JB and Pavarotti would have done on "Sex Machine" lol. We'll never know...Buy this!!! RIP JB & Pavarotti!

Ever since I received Pavarotti the Duets I continuosly watch it whenever there is nothing else to watch. I love the way Pavarotti's tenor blends in so well with the stars style of singing. My favorites are Annie Lennox (The Eurythmics), Bryan Adams, James Brown, and Ms. Sarajevo with Bono and the master himself Pavarotti.
This is a great DVD to play when you have a gathering at home. Those wrapped up in coversation will soon tune in (you just cant help not to) and they will make this DVD the topic of conversation and will want a copy. No regrets here.

I first viewed this great video on an Italian cruise ship in the Arabian Sea! It was the last night of the cruise and there was no live show. The ship graciously paid homage to it's native son by showing this video in the grand theater. It almost became the highlight of our cruise! I ordered it in the airport on our way home. I was mezmerized as I watched Pavarotti lift our world reknowned pop musicians, all great in their own right, to a place they had never been. One of the diamonds in this production is the duet with Celine Dion, truly spectacular. But, then I watched James Brown take Pavarotti to a place he had never been - finding the same soul we have come to love in La Boheme - but now with the dark soul of jazz blues. Anyone who strives for great vocal or appreciates those who find it must have this inspiration in their collection. Be prepared to be brought to tears by the magnificense of these duets with the great Pavarotti. P.S. Every choir director should use this video as a teaching tool abour inspiration and immersion with greatness.

Pavarotti The Duets,

I have always liked Pavarotti especially when he started to do Duets with modern singers. Putting out in the market a compilation of his concerts most especially his duets with various artists and selected songs compensated my missing his actual concerts.

I looked forward to this CD but on listening found it very disappointing. I don't think Pavarotti's booming tenor blended at all well with any of the other artists, nor did his voice seem to lend itself to these types of songs. It didn't seem that LP could adjust his voice to be able to soften, to tone it down in order to blend. Every time he came in, it just felt to me to be bombastic after the other singer had been much more sensitive and in the pocket of the tune. Most of the duets were back-and-forth rather than harmonies but during those LP's voice just drowned out the other's.
The whole thing just didn't work for me despite my positive expectations. Evidently I'm the only negative review thus far and of course this is just my own personal opinion.

It's so sad he is dead but this DVD shows a light side of Pavarotti and he is having fun singing with these non-opera singers.
