Very poor workmanship ruined an otherwise great product.
When the product arrived it was unusable. I had to refit the blades because metal was left in the blade seats from the machining that did not allow the blades to seat properly. The shoulder screw was not seated for the plier hinge and the blades were so roughly sharpened that there were huge burs hanging on the back and they were completely dull. I happened to have the skills to make the repairs and turn it into a great tool but for someone without those skills this product would have been useless out of the box! Unless you have metal working skills better not buy this sheller.

This Duke 0125 Hand Pliers Nut Sheller performs amazingly well. I use it mostly on pecans and they make a nice clean break line instead of smashing the shell in lots of tiny pieces like other nutcrackers do. I am usually able to remove the whole pecan intact from its shell. I purchased two of these from Amazon for the same price that they sell for at the nut shops in my area. Now I have one to give as a gift.

For decades, I thought you were supposed to crack pecans using a pair of pliers. My dad did it this way as well as my grandfather and I carried on the family tradition.

Well, I got old and arthritic and my hands hurt using the pliers, so I bought one of those "inertia nut crackers" but after using it a few days, I hated it because the rubber bands either broke or slipped off and the shell bits went everywhere.

This new nut sheller works better than anything I've ever used. It doesn't hurt my old hands, shell bits don't go flying and the "teeth" help hold the pecan in place. The meat of the pecan is easier to find and it is a breeze extracting the nut from the cracked shell. The teeth along the cutting blade do a very good job of penetrating long pecans and short ones too and it is easy on most attempts to get two each full pecan halves rather than bits and tiny pieces like the old grabbing a pair of pliers from the tool kit.

We bought these for pecan season this year and they work very well. The meat comes out of the shells mostly in perfect halves. I have zero complaints, saves alot of wear and tear on hands. Would recommend to anyone with a tree buy these! Great product.

The spring broke after about 10 pecans being cracked. Very disapointed about the quality of the Pliers. Expected more.

I have one like this that my parents gave me years ago. No idea what brand. I bought 3 of the Duke brand. One is still in the box. Gave one away as a gift and the lady said it fell apart after about 6 uses and they could not get it put back together. We keep tightening the screw on the one we use and my husband took it apart and sharpened the snippers. If we buy another like this it will not be this brand. However I am still using it and even though it is not a great nutcracker it does help crack the nuts in a wonderful way.

My grandmother had one of these and I became an expert at using it on pecans that she could wrestle away from the squirrels in her pecan trees. The jaws are removable and to work worth a darn the single beveled teeth have to be removed and sharpened so they will actually bite into the sides of a pecan. Ends cuts are fine but there's no way those dull teeth will grip a pecan, especially if it's store bought and waxed to make it look pretty. Since the jaw cutting teeth are curved sharpening is not easy. You could flatten the flat side on a course stone (hours) or use a belt sander, or use a small file or dremmel on the bevel side. It works great once sharpened, but be prepared.

Also, the screw that holds the two arms together should be removed, coated with loc-tite. and replaced. Otherwise the screw keeps loosening and the arms wobble.

After reading what I just wrote, perhaps three stars is generous but I still remember grandma's nut cracker fondly. :)

In my first try, the product broke in 2 pieces. Poor Quality and the material looks so cheap. I don't recommend it.
