Ivie Anderson was the best canarie to ever have perched with the great Ellington band. Miss Anderson was perhaphs the most stylish singer to come out of the art deco 30's era. Her voice is full of swing, class, and sophistocation. She always performed in a white dress, mostly fancy silks. She was truly a jazz singer in every sense of the word, often imoprovising with Duke's band members before it was popular for a band singer to do so. This CD compiles some of her best work with Duke from the 30's including the wonderful "Love Is Like A Cigerette." This CD is essential for any comprehensive jazz collection. HIGHY RECOMMENDED

I was just delighted to find this album remastered on CD at last. I first borrowed the record (a re-release) from a friend more than 25 years ago, and haven't been able to find it anywhere since. This is a great, upbeat compilation of wonderful old swing songs, both campy and cool, played just the way they should be.

Swing singer Ivie Anderson was one of the finest pop vocalists of the 1930s, a funky gal with a high society lilt who held her own with one of the best dance bands in America, the fabled Duke Ellington Orchestra. These are some of the best Ellington-Anderson recordings, all treasured gems for big band fans and folks in the know.
