3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good August 3, 2012

Got this when it was 7.99. I played and LOVED Duke Nukem 3D, and was expecting just another Duke game. My expectations were set low after reading so many reviews - and to make it short: It's okay. The graphics are actually fairly good with everything maxed out. The gameplay is good and the humor as well, but the mechanics REALLY bug me. It's kind of ironic - at one part in the game, Duke makes a comment about Halo saying that body armor is for wimps.
Okay, fair enough. But guess what? DNF has the exact same thing except under a new name called 'ego'. Basically, regenerating health. Another gameplay mechanic that bugs me is the total lack of weapons wheel. Remember playing Duke Nukem 3D? Carrying all those 'essential' weapons like the pistol and shotgun, but then having the 'fun' weapons like the shrink ray or freezethrower? That was awesome. In Duke Nukem Forever, you can ONLY carry two weapons at a time. This is the big problem about DNF. Instead of having fun with a ton of different weapons, you only want to carry the essential weapons or else you'll get killed. Usually the best combination is the shotgun and RPG. You WANT to carry the shrink ray, but you dont, since you know that it might be useless in an upcoming battle.

Besides those 2 (horrible) choices they made with the game mechanics, Duke Nukem Forever is pretty fun. The humor is good, and Duke Nukem's persona transfers well to the new gaming crowd. Hopefully somebody will make a mod for the regenerating HP and add a weapons wheel in the future.

EDIT: Another thing is the total lack of secrets. What? For a game with 12 years in development, you'd think they would add some secret areas. Just lower your expectations and you'll probably have a good time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haters gonna hate March 8, 2013

There's no shortage of hate for this game, but I still enjoyed playing it. Sadly it's failure probably means there wont be another attempt to make a more worthy successor to Duke Nukem 3D, but one can hope.

1.0 out of 5 stars This game. April 18, 2013

It's not worth it be on sale or not, it is the amalgamation of 15 years of disappointment and shame, the character that would have been annoying in 1998, is worse by this age, the mechanics and graphics are dated, the game plays and runs like crap. 2K should have taken this one behind the shed and put it out of its misery.
