In contrast to the previous reviewer, I found this book very enjoyable. Mr. Guedalla has a droll sense of humor that was very refreshing. I have read several other biographies of Wellington so I did not receive much new information from this one. (However, to be fair, this book was written in the 1930's and so the more recent biographies cover the same ground as Mr...

The cover blurb calls Guedalla's style 'glittering' and 'epigrammatic'; I'd call it tortuous and frustrating. How sad that the definitive biography of the taciturn, straightforward Duke of Wellington is so wordy and vague.

In contrast to the previous reviewer, I found this book very enjoyable. Mr. Guedalla has a droll sense of humor that was very refreshing. I have read several other biographies of Wellington so I did not receive much new information from this one. (However, to be fair, this book was written in the 1930's and so the more recent biographies cover the same ground as Mr. Guedalla, not vice versa.)Despite this, because of the excellent writing, I still strongly recommend this book.
