Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The Dukes of Hazzard soundtrack will probably prove to be much like the film: Mixing Jessica Simpson and Willie Nelson together in a Southern rock milieu will either seem genius or it'll have you cowering under Grandma's homemade country quilt. This musical journey to the land of moonshine and short shorts kicks off with Simpson (channeling Britney Spears), who purrs her way through a countrified version of "These Boots Are Made for Walkin." From there, the disc settles into straightforward Southern rockville by way of Lynyrd Skynrd, Molly Hatchet, and other bands from the 1970s and '80s, the era of the Dukes of Hazzard television show. (Two notable exceptions are "Burn It Off" by the band formerly known as the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and "Soul City" by Southern Culture on the Skids.)

There's little inventiveness and few surprises in this compilation. Songs like "Black Betty," "Call Me the Breeze," and "Pride and Joy" should be so well known to fans that only the desire to have them in one place--perhaps as a sonic backdrop to your next stock-car race--would make this album worth owning. Possibly the best track in the collection is Willie Nelson's rendition of "Good Ol' Boys." It reminds one of the Waylon Jennings original, and should give serious Dukes fans a hankerin' for the TV soundtrack, which is being re-released to coincide with the film's debut. --Leah Weathersby

3.0 out of 5 stars KOOL BUT MISSING SOME SONGS , January 3, 2006
A Kid's Review
The soundtrack is awsome. But later on I discovered some songs are missing! Its sad to know that your not getting every song from the movie.

The Songs That Are Missing:
1. Jerry Reed's "Guitar Man" (played in the begining of the movie)
2. Shooter Jenninng's "Busted in Baylor County" (played in the scence where Bo and Luke where trying to bust open Boss Hogg's safe)
3. Mountain's "Mississipi Queen" (played when Bo and Luke get there first ride in the new General Lee)
4. Ac/Dc's "If You Want Blood, You Got It" (played when the duke boys are being chased by cops in Alanta)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good CD but overall could of been a lot better, September 10, 2005
If you've seen the movie and bought this CD then you notice some of the better tracks in the movie did NOT make it to the soundtrack. Why? only they know for sure. So I just waited for the credits of the movie to see what was left off (I saw the movie more than once). So if you want the song from the beginning of the movie then you need to find a CD that contains Jerry Reed's "Guitar Man". Also the chase through Atlanta and some of the Duke Farm chase scene then you need to get some AC/DC. The Atlanta chase used AC/DC's "If You Want Blood (You Got It)" from "Highway to Hell". Then the other that was left off was AC/DC's "Shoot to Thrill". That one is found on "Back in Black".
So overall the Soundtrack was okay it could of been a real good one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly a soundtrack to the movie, September 24, 2005
By Paul Harvey (New Zealand) - See all my reviews
I enjoyed the music when I watched the movie, so I decided to listen to the soundtrack. This CD is a good album and I enjoyed all the songs on it, although the jokes are kinda stupid. The problem is that a number of good songs which were in the movie are simply not on this CD; it's disappointing.

All in all it's a nice CD but it doesn't exactly deserve to be the soundtrack of the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Southern girl loves it
This music brings welcome comic relief in a world that often takes itself too seriously. It's got all the retro southern rock I grew up with, and is just a hoot to listen to.
