Product Description

VIDEO GAME VERSION. On paper it sounds like the easiest game to make in the whole world. Take everybody's favorite hicks-'n'- car-chases TV show, the Dukes of Hazzard, and turn it into a mission-based driving game. There'd be all sorts of things you could do like running from the law, racing, wrecking cop cars... uh... running from the law some more... the list goes on and on. The game's story is told through pre-rendered cutscenes, which use some of the real voices from the old TV show. The renders of the characters look downright frightening sometimes by the resemblance. The story moves along from plot point to plot point very quickly. At the beginning you'll just be doing things like stopping carjackers and getting money to the bank before it closes. But the game eventually leads up to a big race and takes a sharp left turn into flashback territory after that, where you'll actually play as a young Uncle Jesse as he tells the story of Black Jack Perril, the game's resident villain.

Amazon.com

It looks like them Duke boys are in a heap o' trouble, and it's up to you to lend 'em a neighborly hand. Based on the long-running television series, this game is a stunt-driving bonanza featuring all your favorite characters, including Bo, Luke, and Daisy Duke, Uncle Jesse, Boss Hog, Cooter, Enos, and the memorable sheriff, Roscoe P. Coltrane. Most of the original cast members have lent their voice-acting talents to the game, including the narrator, Waylon Jennings.

The opening sequence and cutscenes between each level are 3-D-rendered dead ringers for the television show, making it worthy of consideration for collectors. Driving missions are simple and fun, with high-flying ravine jumps and dirt-road power-slides. Get behind the wheel of the General Lee (yes, it has the customized horn), Daisy's Jeep, Cooter's tow truck, and Uncle Jesse's infamous moonshine-runner, Black Tillie.

Control is not as exacting as it should be, but the CB radio banter and the silliness of it all carry the game far beyond its gameplay. --Jeff Young

Pros:

  • Good re-creation of the television series
  • Missions ripped straight from the show such as "get the mortgage to Boss Hog before the bank closes"
  • Fun stunt driving
Cons:
  • The game's challenge lies in its lack of control
  • Gameplay is very repetitive

5.0 out of 5 stars IT'S FINALLY HERE AND IT IS AWESOME! November 23, 1999

I had a chance to preview this game and it is tons of fun! The character animations are fantastic and I love the fact that I can hit the General Lee's horn as I fly over ramps outrunnin' the law. I played Driver, but the Dukes of Hazzard is so much more fun I ain't goin' back. Great variety from mission to mission as you try to save the farm. I just know that Bo and Luke Duke never had as much fun as I did driving through the back roads of Hazzard County.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dukes of Hazzard Racing for Home December 16, 1999

This game is simply amazing. A year ago when I first got my playstation and played a couple of racing games, I had the idea that it would be cool if there was a Dukes game, and when I found out there was I couldn't believe it. This game is a dream come true for a Dukes fan. It's so cool to blow the General's horn as you fly through the air. The graphics are awesome and the entire game is well done. It's like being in an actual episode of the tv show. The only flaw in the slaw on this game is that I wish they could have gotten John Schneider's voice for Bo. This game kicks all others in the rear. You will not be disappointed with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little more fun that the law should allow... December 11, 1999

This is a fun, exciting game. It does a great job of combining a story with racing/driving and all that fun stuff. Fans of the old t.v. show will like the original character voices and vignettes between levels. One very minor complaint is the absence of Daisy Duke except for a few seconds in the opening theme song. Even so, I was totally excited for this game to come out and it didn't disappoint for one second.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a real hit-or-miss April 5, 2000

Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
There's no real middle-ground on this game; you either love it or you don't. The game plays fairly smooth, and the courses are well done, but the settings get repetitive real fast. Fans of the original show should get a kick out of it, but everybody else should try a rental before deciding whether or not to lay money out on this one.
My only real complaint is that there's no vehicle selection; I bought the game hoping I'd be able to play as Roscoe, Sheriff Little, or the infamous green machine. Anyway, buy or rent, this game is definitely one to try.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE CANADIAN DUKES OF HAZZARD FANS GIVE IT 2 THUMBS UP February 28, 2000

THIS NOTE IS FROM AN OLDER DUKES FAN ,WELL ACTUALLY, THE PRESIDENT OF THE CANADIAN DUKES OF HAZZARD FAN CLUB . I WAS REALLY HAPPY TO HEAR OF THE NEWS OF THIS GAME. FINALLY, A GAME THAT ALL AGES CAN PLAY AND UNDERSTAND. IT HAS A GREAT DEAL OF CREATION IN THE DESIGNING OF THE BACKGROUNDS , THE SOUNDS, THE VOICES OF COURSE AND THE CHOICE OF AUTOMOBILES THAT YOU CAN DRIVE . ALL IN ALL I WISH YOU COULD PUT THIS INTO A FLOOR MODEL TO HAVE AT YOUR LOCAL ARCADE. THIS IS FINE PIECE OF WORK THAT MANY CHILDREN , AND ADULTS ALIKE WILL ENJOY. THIS GAME SHOULD MAKE THE TOP TEN FOR THE YEAR 2000 , ESPECIALLY WITH THE NEW MOVIE COMING TO TV . I SAW AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE GAME ON THURSDAY NIGHT WRESTLING , I LOVED THE AD , ALMOST AS MUCH AS THE GAME ITSELF. WELL , KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. THE DUKES RACING FOR HOME GAME IS A STRONG 10 IN OUR BOOKS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dukes of Hazzard Racing for Home March 22, 2000

I would like to go on record saying that this game is alot of fun. I've shown this game to all my friends and they really don't like the T.V. show that well, but got interested just by playing the game. One friend commented that out of all the racing games that are on the market, he liked the Dukes the best because there is more to do than just racing. For example: the arrows, pulling cars over, and blowing up things. I've been a fan of the show since it first aired. This game does justice to the T.V. show. It also has three different skill levels to keep things interesting. A must have game for fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars the dukes of hazzard September 3, 2001
this is one of the best games.it has over 30 missions and great cars in the two player mode. you have to outrun the law whille you chase down the bad guys that kidnapped Daisy. you are also in 2 overland races: the first one is a race to get 20,000 dollars to save uncle jessie`s farm, the second one is to save daisy from Black Jack Peril (uncle jessie`s old rige-running pal.)
you even get to ridge-run in uncle jessies old car. But most of the time you are in the genral lee. this is a game that should be on evreyones list

This game rocks! I grew up watching the Dukes of Hazzard and played with the plastic toys throughout the 80's. This game brought back all those memories of using my coffee table as the General Lee. I could feel a tear rolling in when the intro started. Absolutely the greatest video game ever made. Period!
