5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful CD and captures the feel of the show.
This CD takes you on a tale, narrated by the late, great Sorrell Booke and James Best, of a big race starring "The General Lee". It has the feel of a third or fourth season episode, which is understandable since it was originally recorded in 1981 and includes many mentions of Cletus.

Some notes- "Good Ol' Boys" is sung by a chorus, not Waylon...

2.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment
The series was awesome, but the CD? It really could have done with at least something from the series soundtrack, like even the original start and end themes are absent from the cd. The sketches are a bit of fun, the sound quality is excellent, apart from the sound clips of the General which really could have been better.

It's be great if they would release an album...

This CD takes you on a tale, narrated by the late, great Sorrell Booke and James Best, of a big race starring "The General Lee". It has the feel of a third or fourth season episode, which is understandable since it was originally recorded in 1981 and includes many mentions of Cletus.

Some notes- "Good Ol' Boys" is sung by a chorus, not Waylon Jennings. But "The General Lee" by Johnny Cash is worth the price of the CD alone. Many feel Tom Wopat's rendition of "Cripple Creek" is the best ever recorded of the song, and Doug Kershaw's appearance on the album provides us with two quality songs, including "Keep Between Them Ditches", which is a catch phrase among Dukes characters and fans.

The other reviews of the songs on this board are quite accurate, and James Best's rendition of "Flash" is hilarious. Best once won a grammy for his recording of the dramatic poem "Summer Storm A Comin'", and you can see why when you hear this album.

The re-birth in interest in this great TV series led to the re-release of this album in 1997 in conjunction with the airing of the First Dukes Movie. With a second on the way, this album is contemporary again!

It's be great if they would release an album with background music from the series, so you can pop it in your car fire up the V8 and go blasting down some dirt roads screaming "Yee-haaa" out the window!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Soundtrack Is Great!, June 4, 2002
This review is from: Dukes of Hazzard (Audio Cassette)
For any of you out there that have love The Dukes of Hazzard, this is a must! I've had this album since I was about 6 years old and still love it. Every song on this album will stick with you and make you remember all the rabble rousing, moonshining, bad guy getting, and fun going on every day in Hazzard County. I have to say that the best track is Johnny Cash singing "The General Lee", a whole new perspective on the Duke boys' faithful sidekick, with "Flash", by James Best, coming in close behind. What a great compliment to Roscoe, Boss Hog and all of the Duke clan.

I thought it was pretty good but the best track for my money has to be "Flash" because it's so funny and true!! I loved "In the Driver's Seat" as well and think that the whole thing is pretty good, so put them chairs in the wagon and shake them trees back to Hazzard y'all!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for Dukes fans, August 12, 2004

This album is a great album. It features songs from many cast members, along with special guests Johnny Cash & Doug Kershaw, who are a couple of my favorite artists. The version of the theme song is sung by all cast members, which makes the album special. This album does show the people that all of the Dukes cast members do have musical talent, especially Tom Wopat, John Schneider (who both have had several top 40 hits on Billboard's country charts), and Catherine Bach. If you are a fan of country music or the Dukes of Hazzard, this is a must add to your collection. Put this album next to either "Waylon Jennings' Greatest Hits Vol. 2" or "The Essential Waylon Jennings" which have the original Waylon Jennings recording of the theme song and John Schneider's Greatest Hits which features many of his top 10 hits including all 4 of his #1 Billboard country chart hits. Since the time I wrote this review, Sony BMG/Legacy reissued this soundtrack album with Waylon's original version of the theme and the Waylon & Willie classic "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" as bonus tracks and you can find that version here on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000A1IL0U/

Would've given 5 if the ORIGINAL music from the show was included as well. Talkin' about the original "Good ol' Boys" theme, maybe the Waylon version single, end title, and incidental action music during the show, especially during chases. What we all have here is nice, very nice, a fine selection, but the running time (around 40 minutes) leaves plenty of room for more chitlins and polk.

..alright people, let's not go over the edge with this.

It's a suprisingly well put together peice of work. I first listened to it last week, and have played it to many of my friends and have listened to it by myself (the real test) a few times, and I like it. It's funny, serious, and well represents our Heros of Hazzard County.. Johnny Cash HIMSELF is a treat; it's the first song they roll into, after the obligatory "Good Olde Boys" theme, (which is in itself .. different). Roscoe's "Flash" is a winner and that Daisy (Yoko) Duke song was challenging, to say the least.

.. but I digress.

Fans of the famous Dukes of Hazzard show must invest in the purchase of this CD as it displays the essence of the show. Even if you are a new fan of the tv drama, it is a sure lead into a life long love. The CD is very creative and follows the show plot nicely with its narration by Sorrell Booke and James "Roscoe" Best. The CD is a must, from the music sung by the original players to the funny backdrop of the show. Get it now!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good novelty album for fans of the show, September 19, 1998
By A Customer
Pretty good, though Catherine Bach (Daisy) is painful to listen to. The General Lee songs are good; I didn't enjoy listening to the big car race sequence, "Duelin' Dukes", which I felt should be left to the show. "Laughing All The Way To The Bank", song by Sorrell Brooke (Boss) and "Flash(TM)"(Rosco) are excellent. CD has a special bonus track not available on original LP. I liked The Band's version of "Up on Cripple Creek" better than Tom Wopat's. All said, if you liked the show, this is an item worth owning.
