Whats so UNRATED?,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Dukes of Hazzard (Unrated Widescreen Edition) (DVD)
How is this movie coming out in a unrated version? There was no cursing and no nudity so it shouldn't be unrated. I think that when companines release unrated its just a way for them to make money. Ill rent it to see whats new in it.

Rotten!,
This review is from: The Dukes of Hazzard (Unrated Widescreen Edition) (DVD)
I didn't see this film in its theatrical release. If I had, I would have given in one star. The plot is horrible, and everything that made the TV series fun is gone in this version. Sheriff Roscoe pretty much stole the show in the original series, and always managed to garner genuine laughs. In this one, however, Roscoe is an unpleasant, unlikeable fellow with no real part to play.
Willie Nelson mamages to rise to the same level he did in Honeysuckle Rose, his film debut from the 1980s. Which is to say he can't act at all. Johnny Knoxville is ignorant as Luke Duke, and the other guy who plays Bo, seems out of place. He can actually act, which means he has no place in this film. And Jessica Simpson? Yeah, she looks great, but if you want to sit and gawk at Jessica, just watch the video that comes as an added extra in this package. But there's better eye candy in this unrated version, which earns it two stars instead of one. There's a whole bevy of topless sorrority chicks that make Jessica hardly worth a second look. The extras have even more! But even that's not worth laying down money for...

NOTHING LIKE THE TV SHOW EXCEPT FOR THE STUNTS,
By
This review is from: The Dukes of Hazzard (PG-13 Full Screen Edition) (DVD)
The stunts were cool. That is the only good thing that could be said about this movie. The movie was garabage and not worth watching. All of the characters need their mouths washed out with soap. Nobody in the original series would have used God's name in vain. This movie had unneccessary filthy language throughout. Not suitable for children. An extremely bad excuse for what could and should have been an awesome movie. I was embarrassed and wish I had not wasted my money on something I will never watch again or let anyone borrow. Are there any decent people in Hollywood anymore that make good, clean, fun-loving, silly shows without being filthy? The Dukes of Hazzard TV series was successful because it was mostly clean fun!!!!! This movie should have been the same but sadly was not!!!!!

Really Bad (and this from a fan of the show),

I was a fan of the original TV show, but don't remember much of it, since I was in grade school at the time and haven't caught any reruns on cable. For sentimental reasons, I gave the "Dukes of Hazzard" movie a chance. It was worse than I thought it would be. It's not a good bad movie, just a bad movie. On the original show, I seem to recall that bad guys were the dumb ones and the good guys mostly did not act like morons. Here, the situation is reversed. All the while, the South is portrayed as the irretrievably backward place that it is not (which was pretty silly in the 1980s when the show was on, and it is even sillier now). The "Dukes of Hazzard" plays more like an episode of Knoxville's "Jackass" than the old TV show. The Duke boys are unsympathetic and self-destructive, and the stunts are not good enough to make up for a terribly unfunny script. Jessica Simpson carried herself rather well, I thought, and looked great doing it. But the film is truly bad. Fans of the much funnier "Super Troopers" will spot some of that movie's actors here (this film and "Super Troopers" have the same director). And anyone who went to LSU will recognize the campus (which subs for the University of Georgia.) But for the most part, this movie is dumb minus the fun. Spend your money and time on something else.

believe it or not...,

The best thing about this film, in terms of casting, was Jessica Simpson. Johnny and Seann played the Duke cousins as just plain mean, and Willy played Uncle Jesse the same. Boss Hogg, as done by Burt Reynolds, and Roscoe P Coltraine were just as evil. In the TV show, they were all kinda clueless, lots of funny, and overall likable characters (even Roscoe had redeeming qualities). Not in the movie. The only character they got right was Daisy.
The swearing was over-the-top, in my opinion, and a lot of the so-called plot was just bad. If you've never seen the Dukes of Hazzard, watch this. If you're a fan and want to reminisce, go rent the tv show on DVD and recall the good times that were Tom Wopat, Catherine Bach, and John Schneider. The only thing faithful to the series was the Genral Lee. On a plus side 9and about the only one), Jessica Simpson did a half-decent conver of "These Boots Were Made for Walking" that she may be able to turn into a career now that she isn't married to Nick Lachey anymore :)

Fans of the TV show will be let down,

This movie is American Pie with a cool car. Its off color sexual humor and slapstick comedy at its worst. Which is exactly the opposite of the hit 80's TV show. I was a huge fan of the series and this movie has two things going for it.
1- The Genaral Lee. I dont know what it is about seeing this car fly 60 feet in the air, but I could watch it all day!!! Its the coolest car ever, and clearly the star of the film. There are some of the best car jumps EVER in this movie. 2- Jessica Simpson. Im not a huge fan of hers, but she does a decent acting job. And I cannot state enough that if you are a man she will make your jaw drop. WOW. She is in very good shape!!! The bad parts of the film are pretty much everything else. It is badly mis-cast. I love Burt Reynolds movies, but he is a horrible Boss Hog. Knoxville and Scott are NOT the Duke boys. I refuse to see them that way. And when did Uncle Jesse start smoking weed??? COME ON!!!! Aside from several great car chases and Ms. Simpson's.... shape.... this movie is pretty bad. Worth watching for the stunts and thats about it.

Not as good as the Tv show,

I grew up watching the TV show and had waited for a movie version to come out. What I got wasn't the Dukes I remember. That being said I won't stand on my soapbox and bash this movie like so many others on this site have. I'll simply say this if you like comedy that appeals to the lowest common denominator then this will be a DVD you will enjoy.

Good Movie but HOW IS IT UNRATED?,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Dukes of Hazzard (Unrated Widescreen Edition) (DVD)
This movie is decent. I dont understand how its coming out in Unrated though. This movie had no curses or anything. The Wedding Crashers and 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN are coming out in unrated but that makes sense because they are crude comidies. They are really good though but this wasnt really crude. It was PG-13. Please somone explain this unrated thing

Fair - wouldn't watch it again.,

I never watched the original shows, so this is all that I had to see about the Dukes of Hazard. It was really fair. I wouldn't watch it again, unless paid. I am not a 13-year-old boy so Jessica Simpson half naked all the time did nothing. Well I take that back it made me go and walk on my treadmill. But I cannot believe that she never acted before.. She did a great job of playing Jessica Simpson in the part. But there was a lot of exciting car chases, which I liked, BUT it felt like "Dude where is the General Lee?" Johnny Knoxville was ok, it was just odd that that the `jackass' host was the smart one of the two. It is odd. The story was fair, and Bert Reynolds felt out of place too much costume or makeup not sure which. He seemed like a "bad" version of the sheriff from Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
The only thing "not rated" on this movie was a part at the college - just another excuse to show naked women (not Simpson) running around. So I guess if you are a 13-year-old boy you might like this movie, but I wouldn't watch it again.

Denver Pyle is rolling around in his grave...,

Make no mistake, Warner Brothers should be ashamed of themselves. I'm appauled as a fan of the series, and I can't belive what they turned this franchise into. As fans of the original show probably know, many of the original cast members were against this movie from the start. Ben Jones (Cooter) on his home page actually attempted to deter fans from seeing the movie at all as he thought it was shameful no matter how you sliced it. You can see why when you attempt to watch this mindless movie. It's trailer trash city, with nothing redeeming along the way. They might have as well called this movie "Porkys 4" as the clean spirited history of the show is all shot down to flames in this God awful movie. Even worse they released this unwarranted "unrated" version which is "trashier" than the theatrical release which just gives you more "breast visuals". You'll experience swearing, Uncle Jessie smoking dope, bare breasted college girls, sexual innuendos throughout the movie, poor acting, poor actors and what is with Daisy (Jessica Simpson) becoming a stupid blonde anyway?
I won't even bother with plot as some of my fellow reviewers have mentioned. But even when you take out the sexual stuff, there is still not a single enjoyable moment to be had. It's a bad movie no matter how you slice it. The only saving grace is that the soundtrack is decent and the classic Theme from Waylon Jennings is all intact. Why wouldn't Warner Brothers go back to the original cast to get some story ideas and leave the boobs for the rated R movies? And some cameos from the original Dukes would have been sweet. Seann William Scott is a good actor, but he's not John Schneider and is totally out of place playing the part of Bo. Johnny Knoxville makes Luke pretty darn stupid throughout the movie and his acting leaves little to be desired. Jessica Simpson is a beautiful lady and that fake country accent isn't as bad as expected, but she needs to stick to music. Steer far away General. |
