The Duke's Night of Sin,
This review is from: The Duke's Night of Sin (Avon) (Kindle Edition)
Sebastian Beaufort, Duke of Exeter, has not been able to forget the passionate interlude he had in the library at party. The only problem is, it was so dark he's not sure exactly who his lover was. Lady Siusan Sinclair is one of what Society considers "The Seven Deadly Sins," one of the seven children of the Duke of Sinclair. She was in the library mourning the anniversary of her fiancé's death when Sebastian arrived for a tryst with another woman. Thinking to escape the pain she succumbed to his seduction, little knowing it could lead to the possible destruction of her reputation. But now that she and Sebastian are in constant contact with each other, can she keep herself from telling him the truth, especially as she falls in love with him?
Loaded with passion and intrigue The Duke's Night of Sin has introduced me to a whole new world which I am compelled to explore! How have I missed this series? I will be running to pick up the other books in The Seven Deadly Sins series and am immediately adding Kathryn Caskie to my "must read authors" list! Melissa Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

This story is as superficial as anything one can come up with. It was very disappointing. The reason I bought it, was because the sample seemed promising. However, that is all that was/is promising about this book.
The characters are not well developed, neither is the plot for that matter. Our Heroine is supposed to mature and find her own way in the world, as she (along with her 6 siblings) has continously disappointed her father, so he has issued an ultimatum. This maturing happens while she teaches young girls (after she has run away to hide, mind you - a very mature thing indeed) to pour tea, shop, and the proper way to use their fans, whilst publishing a column about the very same things. HMMM!!! Quiet the maturing, character building experience. Also, she seems rather promiscious. She slept with our Hero (who in my opinion is a bit of a fool, not that anticipated alpha male) at the very beginning of the book, in a library, cast in shadows (so they both do not know each other's identities) as a moment of loneliness, missing her dead fiance. I can understand that; however, she then sleeps with the hero again, after being introduced to him as someone not himself (and he thinks he recognizes her, but isn't quiet sure). And here is another issue, her love for her fiance has vanished; she has not mentioned him or thought of him since the first few chapters in the book. The love story between the two is not at all well developed. They are thrown into each others' company and nothing of consequence happens. There is no witty banter, no discussions whatsoever. How are they supposed to get to know one another and develop a relationship. Our hero's history is also bland. Inheriting the dukedom after his brother passed, the current duke is confused and is giving into the urgings of others - grandmother - inorder to rid the family name of their ill reputation. At the end he shows some backbone by standing up to his grandmother and marrying the heroine. Even the pressure he is put under is underdeveloped. I really don't see why this book got published. Some serious revisions were needed. I don't understand why this book costs so much money. I too (like one other reviewer) wishI could sell my kindle version of it. IT IS NOT WORTH IT!!!

This review is from: The Duke's Night of Sin (Avon) (Mass Market Paperback)
Sebastian Beaufort, The Duke of Exeter is trying to avoid obtaining a wife, making a grand entrance and survive his newly obtained title. Lady Siusan Sinclair is attempting to regain her father's favor, not commit any additional family sins which is difficult when you family has been labeled the Seven Deadly Sins and stay under any bachelor's radar.
When Siusan and Sebastian have a clandestine meeting every good intention flyies out the window and they both are seeking additional sins that might not have been broken on the sofa, in the dark, without an exchange of names. Siusan does not want Sebastian to know who she is so fleeing to the far regions of England and becoming a teacher makes the most sense. But her idea of what to teach the young girls is much different than they are used to because she wants them to be educated and learn to run a household - very scandalous. Sebastian can't give up Siusan and seeks her out and when he finds her the pretense of games has to stop. She must admit who she is to him and confess the one sin she keeps committing - lying about her feelings for him. Yet Siusan has other ideas and pursing them will let her stay at the School of Virtues and further educate the girls as well as write a manual for all the other young women seeking knowledge of how to grow up and become respectable wives. Sebastian has other ideas and he keeps pushing them onto Siusan and yet she pulls back still trying to save her reputation and restore family honor. But rain, snow, distance nor carriage accidents can keep them apart and Sebastian will do but is honorable as well as desirable toward Siusan. Even when a voice screams that she has a reason to stop this relationship Sebastian has had the feel of Siusan body and soul are in his hands and he wants and needs her for life. But can the right decision be made and will Siusan choose her family or her lover? This series is riveting because the characters are so full of life and interact exactly as a family would. They stand beside one another through the bad times but never fail to blast you with the truth as they see it. Siusan is tender and thoughtful which offsets Sebastian's tough and commanding personality. They are a good combination and a wonderful story.

This series is sooo good. I love the characters and the innovative story lines. As usual, I got hooked on the first page and then read it completely overnight. Well, there are more brothers and a sister. Can't wait. Easy reading, can't put it down. I have read all of Ms. Kaskie's books.

Sins that will keep you hooked!,
This review is from: The Duke's Night of Sin (Avon) (Mass Market Paperback)
First of all that let me say that the cover was not that appealing. Sure it had a gorgeous man on the front, but the wow factor of the cover comes when you open the flap of the cover and get the whole picture instead. Yes, I am a fan of covers just as much as books because they are what can capture a readers interest in deciding what will get picked up off the shelf first.
With that being said, the story was great. It is the third book in the "Seven Deadly Sins" series. and in my opinion one of the better of the three. The writing was better, the story was better, and the characters were even more enjoyable than the previous two books. This book pushed the envelope with steamier scenes and bolder characters that pushed this series in a better direction. Even though the ending was a little out there for one of the two main characters, I still found it to be an enjoyable read with the perfect balance of romance, sexy and plot. A great new book in a series that will leave readers wanting to cast their own sins once they finish the book.

I don't understand the mixed reviews on this series. I guess to each their own. I enjoyed it very much. I am an avid historical romance reader... lately I've been reading a novel a day. I like to compare these books to the enjoyment level of what I once got from watching TV shows like Friends. I felt this book was funny, sexy, fast paced and I could relate to the characters very well. It had just enough conflict and suspense to keep me turning pages but not enough to bring me down.

This is the story of Siusan Sinclair, one of Scotland's "7 deadly sins"; Siusan and her 6 siblings were raised by their Father who pretty much let them run wild after their Mother passed away. All of Scotland knew these 7 kids to be trouble, and so as a defensive mechanism against peoples ridicule and scorn they each embraced one of the 7 sins as their own. These siblings do the shocking and barely bat an eye; they're also very close and dependent on each other. Their Father, the Duke, has cast all 7 out with just enough money to cover the essentials, and threatening to cast them out permanently unless they reform and restore honor and respectability to the Sinclair name. Caskie's series is taking us through these siblings one at a time, this story is Siusan's who represents sloth.
The book starts at a gala celebrating Sebastian's recently becoming the Duke of Exeter, after the death of his brother. Siusan happens upon his planned tryst in a darkened library and is immediately mistaken for someone else. Sebastian is slightly inebriated when this happens and wakens the following morning to nothing but faint memories of the night before, and of course a goal to find this girl. Siusan, immediately after leaving the library realizes she just *met* the Duke of Exeter, and knows she must hide herself in case he recognizes her. Siusan is doing her damnedest to follow her Father's order, not for the sake of respectability, but rather so she can stay with her siblings(and not be cast out, which aside from how close the siblings are to each other, she would go so she wouldn't jeopardize her siblings changes of restoring their Father's wealth/respect - no signs of her "sloth" like behavior). Since Siusan and her Family have no funds, she must now hide herself while working for room and board. She does this at a girls academy, where one of her students is Sebastian's illegitimate niece. When Sebastian and his Grandmother catch wind of said niece learning about being a lady vs. true academics, Sebastian comes to inspect and runs into Siusan again. Their relationship blossoms while she's pretending to be Miss. Something or Another (sorry memory is bad!) and he's using a lesser title. All this time Sebastian keeps thinking this is the girl from that night..this isn't the girl...this is the girl. It got confusing, just when i'd settled on him knowing she was the girl, the story line veers back to him not knowing. It was frustratingly confusing. This book either got rushed through the editing process and/or Caskie was all jumbled about how she wanted things to unfold and that came through. Without revealing too much about the plot line, I'll tell you there's a major hiccup in their relationship when someone else wants to lay claim to the Dukedom by pretending another was the girl from that night, her and her pregnant belly. Siusan sheds her "sloth-like-demeanor" to confess and save Sebastian a life with this other woman, while at the same time knowing this would sever her chances with her Father, remove her from her home with her siblings, kill her respectability, and ruin any chances of Sebastian being able to offer for her. This all gets solved neatly and quickly. I wish the author gave us a chance to fall in love with these characters, instead we read that it happened. I guess in between watching lessons on pouring tea and flipping a fan? Where they have little conversation. And she doesn't know him to be the Duke and he doesn't know her to be the mystery girl he's searching for? I feel like authors these days, at least in this genre, forget they're writing a book with characters that CAN come to life. Its like they're taking the same tried plot lines, changing the names, adding some character flaw (in this case, our sloth ridden heroine), a few details, and running full-speed ahead to the happy ending (which I admit is what keeps me in this genre!), but there's so much stuff in middle that's just lacking! Anyways, my frustration with the genre doesn't change my rating...All in all this was your average over priced book, and not one I'd pick up again. Mostly this book left me wishing I could sell back my eBooks.

This was my first read on my new Kindle Fire and I loved this one - I also love my Fire!Ms. Caskie's story is very strong, and it manages to focus on the hero/heroine while introducing the cast of her new series. After reading this one, I'll likely check out the other stories as well. To me, this was about an explosive meeting between two (2) people on opposite ends of a battle with honor. In the end, they must decide whether to hold their honor and loose their love or if love is worth any price. This is a great story filled with memorable characters that you'll probably want to visit in each of their stories.

Wow, I immediately feel in love with this book. Out of the three novels out in this series, I felt that this was the most developed and had more plot than the other two, which actually isn't saying much. Of course, I am a huge fan of erotica, and this book started out steamy. Although, I found it completely ridiculous that she allowed Sebastian to have sex with her in the library when she did not even know who he was. Not only that, but she wouldn't allow him to pull out when he ejaculated. I highly doubt anyone can be that...empty headed. I could be wrong though.
After realizing just how much she screwed up, Siusan suitably freaks out and decides to stay low. When Sebastian uses Priscilla's stocking to track Siusan all the way to her house, Siusan realizes she needs to get the hell out of Dodge before her scandal is exposed to the world. She then ends up at Sebastian's ward's school. More chaos ensues when Sebastian shows up at the school, although he has no idea who Siusan really is. After some bantering, Sebastian gives Siusan the idea to publish a novel of how to be a proper later which proves to be very successful. Even though they are completely unaware of the other's true identity, the two begin to fall in love. While I found the plot to be slighty ridiculous, I still enjoyed to reading the novel. It was one of those novels that I kept reading just because I wanted to read about Siusan and Sebastian getting together. I knew it was going to happen, I just wanted to read it unfold. |
