This review is from: The Dumb Bunnies (Paperback)
This is the perfect book for a kid whose favorite jokes revolve around the words "toilet" and "underwear" -- your typical four year old, for instance. My typical four year old loves it! The Dumb Bunnies are a family of clueless rabbits who might remind you of a certain family of bears. When they go to town to let their porridge cool off, they take their bikes, which are strapped on top of their car. "'Can I drive the car?" asked Baby Bunny. "'You don't know how to drive," said Poppa Bunny. 'You'd get us all killed.' "'Aw, please?' asked Baby Bunny. "'Duh, okay,' said Poppa Bunny." While the Dumb Bunnies are in town bowling at the library and picnicking in the car wash, Little Red Goldilocks, whose skin is white as snow, breaks into their house. She sleeps in Poppa Bunny's porridge, eats Momma Bunny's bed, and uses Baby Bunny's pimple cream, but the Dumb Bunnies love her. In fact, Baby Bunny loves her so much, that he flushes her down the toilet. This book was my first introduction to Dav Pilkey, and now I'm a diehard fan. His cartoon drawings are hilarious! The cover of The Dumb Bunnies shows the family in the great green room from "Good Night Moon," complete with the bowl of mush on a table and lava lamps on the mantle. There's even a big gold Caldecott-like seal over the illustration which reads "This book is too dumb to win an award." Well, if four year olds could give book awards, this one would be a sure winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Humor, parody, and lesson-teaching..., October 18, 2003
This review is from: The Dumb Bunnies (Paperback)
I feel as though I must address the scathing criticism of other posters. This book is a silly parody of other stories. It does not teach kids to say, "Duh." That is a sound that the father makes when he is actually being dumb. It does not encourage the child to do something after his parents have told him it was dangerous. Rather, it demonstrates the consequences of doing so and makes it appear "dumb" to do it. This book is about producing giggles from the unexpected and silly. My children absolutely love the gentle irreverence of it. It is not harsh or rude; rather it is charming and fun. I highly recommend it for any children, especially those who may not have developed a love of reading just yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luv that Dav Pilkey guy!, April 4, 2003
This review is from: The Dumb Bunnies (Paperback)
Dav Pilkey is the author/illustrator of the hi-larious Captain Underpants series. His books are very funny and will encourage reluctant readers to pick up a book.

The Dumb Bunnies are a very silly family who happily do things backwards, upsidedown and sideways, without ever losing their happy dispositions, in fact, they never even notice that they march to the beat of a different drummer! With humor that everyone can understand and great illustrations, kids will really enjoy the Dumb Bunnies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funniest Children's Book I've Ever Read With My Child!, November 2, 2005
This review is from: The Dumb Bunnies (Paperback)
This book is an absolute HOOT! The first time my seven year old and I read it together, she laughed so hard tears were running down her face! We continue to read it whenever we want a good laugh and some "silly time" together. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars SILLY BOOK ABOUT A FAMILY OF DUMB RABBITS AND KIDS LOVE IT., October 6, 2007
This is one of those books that make adults sort of cringe, but that kids seem to love. It is the brief story of a family of truly dumb bunnies, i.e. rabbits. If something can be done wrong then the bunny family does it. Severing the porridge cold? Blow in it. If the Porridge is too hot, well stick it in the microwave for a bit. The art work catches the eye of the children and the situations are so ridiculous that it extracts giggles from all the little ones. I do have a problem, sort of, with the author though. This book being reviewed here is quite good and teaches rather good lessons. The author also, as I understand it, writes the Captain Underpants books, which are truly horrid. That being said, I don't feel the little stories here will "ruin" you children. To be quite frank, if your child wants to build a log cabin from bricks, then folks, you have a problem, and this book quite likely had nothing to do with it. Nice read, kids have fun with it. I liked it.

5.0 out of 5 stars hee hee!, December 15, 2000

This review is from: The Dumb Bunnies (Paperback)
when i was student teaching in an inner-city school i read this classic to my kindergarten class and it was stolen before first recess. no one would fess up and at first i grieved for the loss of my favorite book, but i quickly realized that it had made some kid want to read badly enough to swipe it, which is a testament to it's utter fantabulosity. every time i read any of the "dumb bunnies" books i laugh out loud, wherever i am. just looking at those bunnies in their underwear makes me laugh! and the toilet jokes are to die for. this is my favorite series for reluctant readers of any age.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Dumb Bunnies, March 4, 1998
My two kids loved this book. They ask me to read it to them every night. The story is silly but, the kids laugh each time the book is read. It makes for an enjoyable night for all...

5.0 out of 5 stars My sides hurt from laughing, June 28, 2006
This review is from: The Dumb Bunnies (Paperback)
Dave Pikey is just simply funny. The artwork is entertaining, but the story of a bunny family getting things, dates, places all mixed up, doing silly things is not only entertaining to the kids, but to adults too. Shut off your brain, think like a kid again, and giggle like you did when you were 6 with your kids too.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Dumb Bunnies (Paperback)
Okay, Dav Pilkey is a hoot! This book is goofy and silly. My 6 year old trully belly laughs when we read it. My 3 year old giggles too, but I'm not sure she really "gets" it yet. This book is not for the prim and proper prudes. But if you can get down and silly with your kids... this book is for you. My son still walks around the house saying "That's my Boy!" It's too good!!
