1.0 out of 5 stars True To Its Name - The Dumbest Movie I've Seen January 6, 2004
Format:DVD
I cannot believe I even watched "Dumb and Dumberer." This ranks as one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The only redeeming moment in the entire film is seeing Bob Saget flip out-always good for a laugh. This is not a movie for those who loved the original film. It does not help one understand the original (as one reviewer commented). It is a waste of time.
Olsen and Richardson do a fair job at imitating Carrey and Stern, but they are more annoying, far too dumb, and have no motivation for most of their actions. I agree with the reviewer who comments that they simply play kids who are mentally retarded and cash in at the expense of those who actually are challenged.
I would not recommend this movie to anyone. Period.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dear Lord... you get what you pay for? January 5, 2004
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I guess with a title like Dumb and Dumberer I shouldn't have been surprised that the movie was DUMB and kept getting DUMBERER.
I know...? Der? What do you expect. That's what the movie is. Well... at least Dumb and Dumber had some execution. There was setup to the jokes. There was delivery. There was a method to the madness.
Dumb and Dumberer has none of that. There is only one way to describe this movie. One word. RETARDED.
There are two or three funny scenes and with proper execution would have been even funnier. Bob Saget's rant about his bathroom was a stomach hurter, and that's about it. The rest are ridiculous, in the tradition of JACKASS kind of jokes.
There's no story either. It's about... I... I don't remember what it's about. Something about a chest, a school mascot costume and a class for special people.
Okay... I've gotta say something good. The movies deplorable and a waste of time, but Rachel Nichols, who plays Jessica, is the only bright spot in the entire poop splattered mess. She's the movies object of lust and SHE'S the only reason to hit PLAY on your DVD. I hope she gets some more movie rolls because she's sharp and one of the sexiest things to happen to the silver screen in awhile.
Otherwise, walk away... no 'RUN'. No, in fact, go rent DUMB and DUMBER and watch it again. See how humor is supposed to be executed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so bad November 15, 2003
Format:DVD
Some of the jokes were actually funny which surprised me. Olson portrays Llyod well. It's like seeing a young Carrey. It good have been better with such a comedic cast though.

1.0 out of 5 stars WOW, what a bomb! July 13, 2003
By Bigflu
I am a huge fan of the original movie, I watch it almost every time I stumble across it on the television. But the sequel may have been the worst movie I've ever seen - and that's a bold statement considering how bad Highlander II was (still the alltime worst).
It's sad that they wasted such a great performance by Eric Christian Olson as a young Jim Carey. He not only looks the part, he acted the part of Lloyd to perfection. Derek Richardson as Harry wasn't as convincing, but Olson picked up the slack nicely.
The problem could be traced to the plot, there wasn't one. The actual funny parts were too few and too far apart to even hope to come close to the original. The first film had such a slapstick approach with a small enough plot to base the stupid antics on. This film was just a series of random stupid acts.
I was severly let down.

3.0 out of 5 stars One low price for one good movie of the pair July 10, 2010
Format:DVD
To avoid confusion, I emphasis the second movie's title as "DumberER", just to acknowledge the imbecilic suggestion for a sequel title. Originally, I was suppose to review just "Dumb and DumberER", but somehow no video store in my area has it. I found this double feature set instead (no bonus features, just the films only), and decided rather than to chastise another comedy, I decided to compare these two films to understand the fond memories I had with the first movie and how the second film manage to be dumb for unironic reasons.

"Dumber" has Jeff Daniels and then-rising comedian Jim Carrey carry the roles of two knuckleheads Harry and Lloyd. While their antics are cleverly dumb than actually dumb (something I spoke strongly against before), I can excuse that because the actors are very funny due to the great amount of spontaneity they give to their characters. "DumberER" has two relatively unknown actors playing younger versions of Harry and Lloyd. Although they succeed in looking the part of the original characters, they lack the charm and energy that Carrey and Daniels manage to deliver in their roles.

The plot in "Dumber" has the lead characters going to different locations across the nation, while inadvertently fending off devious criminals with a case of stolen money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pitiful Excuse for "Entertainment" February 16, 2004
Format:DVD
Is it possible that movie quality in America can descend much lower? (Don't answer that question if you must reply in the affirmative.) Like most folks, I like a good laugh now and then but the problem with this comedy is that it is not funny. By not funny I mean it was boring, obnoxious, stupid and predictable. I found myself looking around in the theater at others who seemed relieved that the lights were so low their identities were hidden.
I mean, the forced laughter at the skits, the same old jokes, the same dumb tricks - it reminds me of my boys only when they were in sixth grade. I am not sure which actor did worst (or best, depending on your point of view). They were annoying in the extreme - even in the "funny" parts. One note: People almost flew out of their seats just before the credits rolled, probably for a breath of fresh air. Do not rent or buy this movie except for someone you don't like.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good prequel
Good movie. This is nowhere near as good as Dumb and Dumber, but it is a relatively entertaining prequel. It doesn't have too much re-watch value. Read more
