1940's Disney Magic,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dumbo (Audio CD)
This is a modern Disney original soundtrack restoration from the 1941 movie by master Disney soundtrack restoration producer Randy Thornton. He has taken music recorded in the 1940's, reconstructed it,and de-noised it. Back in 1941 Oliver Wallace was a very talented in-house studio musician and composer with Disney Studios for many years and he wrote the underscore for Dumbo. There is even a demo of a song that was not used in the movie included here as a bonus and Ollie Wallace himself is the performing musician on the track. 2 other Disney music department staff Frank Churchill and Ned Washington wrote most of the songs for the movie. Churchill and Wallace earned an Academy Award for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture, and the song "Baby Mine" was nominated for Best Song. There is a great 15 page booklet with song lyrics, great liner notes, and terrific artwork from the movie. All total the CD lists 17 tracks and 40 minutes of music. Overall a gem of Disney history and very fun to listen to. These restoration Cd's from Disney are a great deal being very affordable.

Glorious Music From Disney's Golden Age,
By
This review is from: Dumbo (Audio CD)
DUMBO (1941) is regarded by many as one of the five animated films from the apex of Disney's golden age, before World War II changed everything. The score, by Frank Churchill and Oliver Wallace, has such song favorites as "When I See an Elephant Fly" and "Baby Mine." Curiously, the background music score has only been available, partially, on an lp issued back in the mid-50's. This CD release has all the available music tracks, taken from the actual recording sessions, and is a must for any collector of film music, as well as anyone devoted to the great Disney films.Don't expect modern stereo sound, however, as this music was originally recorded back in the early 40's. However, these are the actual cues taken from the film itself, with no dialogue or sound effects getting in the way. So, enjoy the songs and the music, as they were always meant to be heard, on this, the most complete recording of this score you're ever likely to get.

Dumbo Soundtrack,

You'll not get this from the stores in the states (I even checked the online disney store). Dumbo won an Oscar for best Original Score, nominated for best song (and might well have been nominated for two more). Also won the 'Prix du meilleur desin animé' at the Cannes F.F.Most importantly, the the music on this disc is timeless (not Hanna Montana -- sorry fans) and just plain good for any collector or parent of children who know thier pachyderms... |
