5.0 out of 5 stars Where have you been all my life?!, March 24, 2009
This review is from: Dump 'Em: How to Break Up with Anyone from Your Best Friend to Your Hairdresser (Paperback)
For years I've avoided breaking up with people in my life when the relationship didn't work anymore, whether it was a not-so-good friend or my therapist that spent more time taking about herself than about me. It's uncomfortable and somehow I always ended up chickening out at the last minute and then kicking myself afterwards! "Dump 'Em" not only showed me the best way to finally make the break using really practical and easy to stick to guidelines, but it had me laughing the whole way through! If you know anyone that has trouble with confrontation then you have to buy them this book... they'll thank you for it!! And thanks Jodyne for writing such a fantastic, funny, and helpful book!

Jodyne Speyer is the Break Up GURU. And I just became a follower. DUMP 'EM is wittingly informative & a great read. I'm about to dump my cleaning lady now, and frankly I think she will be happy. It's been 6 years of broken household items, and not so clean - cleaning. Not until I read DUMP 'EM did I realize I could do this. Thank you, Jodyne Speyer for breaking it down for us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and totally practical -- my fav book of 2009!, May 6, 2009
This review is from: Dump 'Em: How to Break Up with Anyone from Your Best Friend to Your Hairdresser (Paperback)
After seeing this book on the View, I went to Jodyne's website: [...] read some reviews, and decided I HAD to get this book. I'm 22 and at the age where I am tired of dramatic friendships that are going nowhere, and reading Jodyne's advice on how to sever ties with friends was motivating and unbelievably helpful. I was able to Dump a friend kindly and make her see that we weren't right for eachother in the friendship sense, and I couldn't have done it without the help of Dump 'Em. THANK YOU JODYNE! I am recommending this book to all my friends and family who are looking for a hilarious read that is also sensitive, warm, and outstandingly useful. Buy it, you will not be disappointed. Also, whoever that guy is that compared Jodyne to a turd is an idiot. There is no way you could at all dislike this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars hilarious, April 23, 2009
This review is from: Dump 'Em: How to Break Up with Anyone from Your Best Friend to Your Hairdresser (Paperback)
I love that Jodyne is a regular gal. She really tells experiences that we've ALL been through at one point or another. It really makes me think about some of my past situations and whether I handled them with enough finesse or not! I like the fact she gives you the -what I'd like to call the wish list of excuses we COULD use, but really gives some good solid points in how to deal with others.

The comedy relief in this book is well needed, and helps us know that we're not alone dealing with some of these situations! She calls herself a "recovering avoidant", and honestly... ya... i'm still in the avoidant stage! lol

5.0 out of 5 stars What a hoot!, March 24, 2009

This review is from: Dump 'Em: How to Break Up with Anyone from Your Best Friend to Your Hairdresser (Paperback)
What a hoot! This is a book that's so much fun to read- it's chock full of hilarious anecdotes about the pitfalls of trying to rid oneself of a boring friend, inept hairdresser or even annoying family member. However, besides the humor, Jodyne Speyer has done her homework, and done it well! She researched the best ways to "dump" with grace and good common sense, interviewing potential dumpees such as hairdressers, to find out how they would prefer to be dismissed, while maintaining some dignity and good will. A must read for anyone who wants to live a less angst-ridden existence without the inevitable guilt after having to dismiss a person who has become uncomfortably entwined in his or her life. What a great idea this is. Thank you, Ms. Speyer!

I love this book for so many reasons. For starters, Jodyne Speyer is probably one of the funniest writers I have ever read. Her hilarious voice gives the reader concrete advice on how to break up with people from a friend to their hair dresser. I needed this book years ago and am so happy Ms. Speyer decided to take on the subject of breaking up in such a unique way. I've already bought several of my friends their own copy. This way, I can just tell them to go read the book when they are calling me for advice. It's going to make my life so much easier. Thank you Jodyne Speyer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book, March 24, 2009
This review is from: Dump 'Em: How to Break Up with Anyone from Your Best Friend to Your Hairdresser (Paperback)
This book will not only entertain you, it will save you so much time and energy. First off, it's hysterical. We've all been in these situations and wish we'd handled ourselves differently. Well, now we have a guidebook to do just that. Jodyne says it right up front, there are dozens of books on how to break up with a boyfriend or girlfriend, but no one has taught us how to end relationships with a friend, a hairdresser, a housekeeper, etc. That is, until now. This book teaches healthy boundaries and keeps the reader wildly entertained at the same time. Buy this book. It also makes a great gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars SO great!, March 24, 2009
This review is from: Dump 'Em: How to Break Up with Anyone from Your Best Friend to Your Hairdresser (Paperback)
I read portions of Jodyne Speyer's book out loud to my teenage daughter and we laughed hysterically together. But, also, I was glad for my daughter to understand that she could take all the relationships in her life into her own hands, and make decisions, even hard ones, about them.

Jodyne is real, warm, funny and super-crazy smart. She has overcome her own fears and now handles conflict with grace and kindness, which makes her a lighthouse, showing the way for all of us out there who are still afraid of being disliked, of making someone angry, people who don't honor themselves, scared they might make a mess. I don't know about you, but I'm ready to honor myself, and Ms. Speyer is helping BIG TIME!
