This prequel provides more than background material. The stunning plot twist in the latter half of the book has all the impact of a cliffhanger, but the sublimely conceived and developed intrigues that follow Leto's gambit elevate this work to the ranks of the original novels. Not nearly as richly detailed, but astonishingly elegant in scope, it more than contributes to the mythos, it effectively reveals what has gone before.
