My son loves this plant. We've purchased many plants like this and they are very easy to take care of :)

As an award-winning Carnivorous Plant Grower involved in a number of societies, I need to tell everyone whose thinking about buying one of these overpriced Carnivorous Plant kits... DON'T!!
It's a rip-off, the plants are easy to obtain fully-grown and probably cheaper. Seed grown Carnivorous Plants take years to mature and they will not survive in a closed dome, undrained container like the one included. Seeds can be bought for One Dollar for a packet of around 10 seeds of a type from the International Carnivorous Plant Society.
Total scam-job!!
THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!!

If you would like to get involved in the rewarding hobby of growing Carnivorous Plants I would suggest checking out the book section of Amazon for Carnivorous Plants and pick out an informative book about them and how to grow them. Good picks are Peter D'Amato's Savage Garden which is highly regarded as being the Carnivorous Plant grower's bible or a new book on the scene Barry Rice's Growing Carnivorous Plants.
Once you know the specific requirements to grow these plants, I would suggest ordering some plants from one of the many online nurseries which can easily be found by a Google search or maybe check-out your local garden store, nursery, flower shop or even Home Depot or Wal-Mart might even have some in stock.
The plants this kit touts as "rare" are actually quite easy to find and usually pretty cheap.

In closing this product should be reported to the Better Buisiness Bureau for deceptive advertising.

1.0 out of 5 stars There are better ways to grow Carnivorous Plants, July 18, 2010

I have been growing carnivorous plants for more than ten years, I grow both native and topical plants. I have two outdoor bogs.

I can tell you this is probably the worst possible way to start the hobby of growing carnivorous plants. Growing these plants from seed takes knowledge and patience, a pitcher plant can take as much as five years to reach maturity. To think that a novice could buy this kit and be successful is wishful thinking at best.

Don't buy this kit ... it is a waste of your money.

I love growing carnivorous plants, and encourage people to try this very rewarding hobby, but this is NOT the way to go about it. There are many good nurseries that specialize in these amazing plants. Google carnivorous plants and they are sure to pop up.

These plants are not hard to grow, but they can not be treated like an average houseplant. Do a little research, find out what they need. Buy some plants that are established, and you will be well on your way to growing these amazing plants.

The seeds took a very long time to sprout. They have finally almost two months later. We are in winter in Nebraska. I think a warmer season would make it more fun. Hopefully as the weather warms and our house is a little warmer the growth will speed up.

The kit makes it seem like you will be seeing plush plants growing in no time. This is definitely not going to happen even if Martha Stewart comes to your house and gets things started for you.

1) the seeds are incredibly tiny and there are only 6 of them.

2) the instructions have you put in way too much water. You want the soil to be wet, but not soaking.

3) The dirt in the closed dome will eventually grow green, glistening mold on the surface.

4) If anything sprouts, you'll most likely only see one plant. 5) Be careful how you water it as the soil dries out. Do it sparingly, just enough to keep things moist.

5) If you're buying this for your children, don't. They will be disappointed with the results, and most likely in college before the plants mature, assuming you get them to grow at all.

6) If you are looking for something that your children will find interesting to watch and help grow, then buy them plants at the local nursery.

7) I found out that it takes years for these plants to mature, so buying them as plants your children can take care of is much smarter.

8) This kit is not a realistic way to see results.

I've had two of these kits now, and both times they have sprouted one tiny plant that never made it beyond being a tiny plant.

When other reviewers here have talked about how their children love these plants, I'm thinking they've never actually used this particular kit. They're just reviewing the idea of having a Venus Fly Trap.

I purchased 2 kits for my children, the venus flytrap kit and the "tickle me plant" kit.
We followed the direction meticulously and 3 months later, nothing.
Nothing. Not one of the seeds sprouted, and the kids are SO disappointed. We placed them according to instructions exactly, made sure to measure the moisture level etc. still, no results.
Very disappointing, which is even more upsetting than the money wasted, seeing your kids running every morning to check on the seeds, for 3 months, only to find nothing at all had changed.

We followed all the instructions per the letter for this thing - but nothing happened. We did not have any plants even begin to sprout. It was almost a complete waste of our money and time.

I was very disappointed to find that this was not for actual flytrap plants, but for a tiny group of six seeds, plus dirt and a plastic container and lid. Oh, and a little plastic snake.
