Not Enough Upgraded,

It's Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground with a new coat of varnish. If the story was deeper, I wouldn't mind. If they had a bunch of cool, newer features I wouldn't mind (not there). If they made it faster and easier to build the dungeon, I wouldn't mind (still slow going).
Basically, rather than refine the first game, the manufacturer resold the first game, only slightly tweaked. Combat is a little different, and it is slightly harder to get the 'next level' on your dungeon (more score-based). Otherwise, same game. I guess you get to play as a female later on, if desired, but that's hardly a selling point for me. Normally, I'd be the first to keep what worked, but I learned the extreme tedium of the menu and combat system when I played through the first one. I wanted a faster gaming experience with a larger different world, and instead got a slower gaming experience in larger similar world. I wanted better background music. If you played through the first Dungeon Maker, the second doesn't have much innovation, and may bore the more serious gamer.

My 8-year-old son got this for Christmas and we started playing it together. At first we were thinking it was pretty simple and might turn out to be boring and monotonous. As we progressed we found out that this game has a lot to offer, it just takes a little while to uncover some of the secrets.
The most fun and unique thing about this game is the ability to plan out a dungeon in such a way that a monster will want to live in it, which is the point of the game. We discovered that there actually is a method to this if you want to maximize your monster, and thereby treasure, intake. The monsters start out pretty easy to kill, but they progressively get more difficult. As you go you get more advanced rooms to place in your dungeon. The hardest thing for me was figuring out how to place the massive boss rooms (I didn't realize they were so large). It's also not clear how deep your dungeon has to go before the boss will appear. There are a lot of extras in this game too, including cool spells, a trainable sidekick, and a lot of profitable quests. This is a good game for young and old players. It has enough RPG to keep me interested and enough action to hold my son's interest.

The core game of Dungeon Maker 2 is entertaining enough for those who enjoy building a dungeon layout, killing the random inhabitance that populate it, taking the money from these killing sprees and making the dungeon bigger and better.
Surround thing core are terrible animations, uninspired models and characters, boring or annoying dialog, unbalanced and uninspired game-play, & many other little annoyances that help the game grate the nerves a bit. For me, however, the pro's outweighed the cons.

if you liked dm 1 then dm 2 is sure to please, not only are you in the game but also a little magical (pet?) to help you out in battle and to search thru certain genju dungeons on the way. So in many ways the same game, but upgrade of graphics, new spells, new monsters, new room pieces, all of what you would expect from the sequel. Enjoy it, I know I am.
