The ORIGINAL Role-Playing Game,
By ed.gross@mgstech.com (Menomonee Falls, WI, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dungeons & Dragons (Classic Pink Box Set) (Loose Leaf)
Originally created as an extention to board wargamming, this is the game that spawned a whole new genre of games. Role-Playing Games (or RPGs) are sort of a grown up "make believe". Each player creates a character (sort of like in a play) and then creates the lines as they go along. One player is the Dungeon Master (DM). His(her) job is to keep the story going by means of keeping track of the antagonists and background. The books are the background rules (preventing the "bang bang, your dead!" "No I'm not! You missed" that you probably remember playing as kids. One thing to note. The players are not acting out what is happening, but rather verbally expressing it (we can't have people beating the DM up, can we?). A unique genre of games in that noone "looses". Victory is achieved through all the players working together to solve puzzles and difficult situations set up by the DM. In effect, everybody wins by having fun working together.
