We didn't like 4th edition and went back to 3.5.
Instead, the authors recognized D&D as a flexible game played by very diverse people, and provided advice to make the game work for everyone.
I read it cover to cover and I feel like it is the best guide on how to run a role-playing game that I have ever purchased.
