5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best classic RPGS for the Genesis., November 5, 2001
This review is from: Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun (Video Game)
I first got this game when I was about 6 years old, and I still enjoy playing it to this day. It's not your usual RPG, and it does have a limited number of classes, but, it's fun and challenging nonetheless. The weapons are old-fashioned, and simple. The controls are nice and easy, as one would hope so. Plus, it brings back the good ol' monsters you know and love. From dragons to beastmen, to wolves and rats. The key storyline, is that you are a band of warriors, and you and your entire kingdom have been transported to a land that you cannot identify at all. After a while, the townspeople start losing their minds, and... Well, I'll not spoil the fun for you. Have fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic RPG! Flawless!, March 25, 2005

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun (Video Game)
This has to be one of the best RPG games ever. This game utilized the old skool D&D rules. Those who actually played with the books, paper and dice can easily appreciate this masterpiece. There is a great story that really resembles old modules. Modules. Man, I haven't used that word in over a decade! You create a party of four characters from the basic character classes, male or female. The weakest class is the theif and the most powerful is probably the cleric. There are a lot of cool spells and there are a lot of neat items to collect and use. If memory serves correctly, you can actually find plus 3 weapons and armor. I remember blue was plus one, green was plus two and red was plus three.
There are a lot of neat settings like beastman caves, lizardmen villages, aztec temples, fire caverns, subterranean caverns and the yes, even a dark elf city. You can run around looking for random encounters which are pretty damn scary when you just start off. Early level characters can easily be killed by hill giants. They throw boulders and kill you instantly. But when you get your characters to level say, 14, you can easily slay dragons. And yes, this game has both dungeons and dragons with lots and lots of treasure.
Traveling through caverns is a long dangerous ordeal. As you walk, through the caverns, view is first person. As you turn corners or from a distance you see the monsters appear. You then immediately shoot the crap out of them until they get close to you and then you swing your melee weapons. Each character has a turn to swing so on the side of the screen, you see how much damage each chracter did. When they swing there's this swoosh sound. When they hit, there's this bam sound. If your character gets hit, there's a Ugh sound. If they lose enough damage their facial expression changes from happy, to angry, to scared. If your character dies, theres this very scary crashing sound and the character's face turns white. You can easily get your characters revived in the town, of course. There was a great and useful guidebook for the game. It had maps, monster stats and spell descriptions, along with tips and advice. If you can find it, it would be a great help. This game is a classic and well worth digging up.
