Dunlop Aerogel 4D 5 Fifty Lite Racquet Review,
By Tennis Express (Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dunlop Sports MP Aerogel 4D 550 Lite Tennis Racquet (Sports)
Dunlop's 4d technology, four-directional braided graphite wrapped in an aluminum sheath at the 3-5, and 7-9 o'clock positions, is designed to increase the frame strength and torsional stability without adding weight to the frame. The 5Fifty Lite is a tweener racquet that I tested playing both singles and doubles with a variety of opponents. Groundstrokes:While it is a lightweight racquet, the 5Fifty Lite has an extended length of 27.25" and head heavy balance to allow for some pop and power with the racquet and keep it from getting pushed around. It is easy to generate the quick swing speed needed to provide power. I found forehands to provide good direction and depth and the 16*19 string pattern provides spin potential if strung with a softer poly like Pro Hurricane or RPM Blast. Volleys: I prefer a standard length racquet as I don't possess the fastest set of hands at the net, yet the extra length and head heavy balance didn't hinder maneuverability and was fine with rapid-fire exchanges at close range. I found a good deal of touch with it. It does require a bit of follow through to get some power behind volleys, if you are adept at hitting out in front and punching it into the open court, this may be a good choice to demo. Serves: Extended Length, Head Heavy, Light Weight. Add these three items up and it's easy to see how you can generate power easily with the 5Fifty Lite. The lightweight makes it easy to make solid contact and drive through with the wrist. I found a bit more pop on the ball after the bounce, as it was easier to get it up and around an opponent shoulder. A great serving doubles racquet. Returns: While it may be a bit underpowered on groundstrokes, it is an asset on returns. If you are a big swinger, take your cuts and be rewarded The slightly head heavy balance provides stability, although some lead may be needed at 3/9 o'clock if you're playing a big banger to keep the racquet stable. Those of you with shorter and more compact returns will need to make contact out front. Overall impressions: Players who in the past may have used a player's racquet type of spec but can no longer wield the weight or are finding it a tad too slow can look to demo the 5Fifty Lite as well as younger or lighter players who have grooved strokes and can modify the racquet easily with some lead as they get older. I'd also recommend it as a demo for junior player transitioning into an adult option. Dunlop Sports MP Aerogel 4D 550 Lite Tennis Racquet

My daughter is a highly competitive junior tennis player. She had a Wilson n tour but was too heavy and gave her problems. This is a good all around raquet from the ground and at the net bc it it light.
