DUNNOTTAR
Enough action for a man
Enough passion for a woman
Enough intrigue for everyone

Dunnottar Castle, Scotland, the domain of the Clan Keith, close consorts of the royal family for many generations. The whole country is at war with itself: Scotland against England. William Keith, the patriarch, is the wealthiest man in Scotland, but he desires only to be known as the kindest; John, his younger brother, is eager to fight for his country, even if his motives are a little questionable; and Robert, Williams oldest son, is off to battle, but his mothers only hope is that he finds a wife in the process.

Even the most seemingly righteous families have some deep, dark hidden secrets. The Keith clan is no exception; some of them so deep and dark even the other Keiths dont know they exist. But they are privy to secrets of King Charles II himself.

Watch for the upcoming Marylebone, the sequel to Dunnottar.

More About the Author

Janet Elaine Smith has been a successful, well-known magazine writer for over 30 years. She now has 21 successful books published, in 6 genres, which all reveal her delightful sense of humor. She also has e non-fiction books available: Promo Paks (marketing tips for authors), Rebel With a Cause her memoirs), and The Flood of the Millennium (her role in the devastating flood in Grand Forks ND in 1997).
After losing her husband, Ivan, of 42 years, she moved to Northeast Wisconsin, where she is pursuing not only her writing, but has become a popular inspirational speaker throughout the area.
On of the most fun things she has discovered is that John Grisham seems to be writing her life in his books, as she details on her website.
She travels the world in her novels, and you can find almost anything in them--romance, intrigue, mystery, adventure, humor--but you will never find one that doesn't have a happily-ever-after ending.
Janet admits that her favorite book is A Christmas Dream, which she says "Makes you feel warm and fuzzy--from the inside out." Her favorite characters are Patrick and Grace, from their own mystery series.
She loves hearing from her readers, but they keep asking for her minor characters to have a book of their own. There are only so many hours in a day! But hey, a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do, so she's working on them! If you have a favorite minor character of your own from one of her books, please let her know who it is.
She has at least another 100 books in her head, so don't worry--there's more to come!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dunnottar, August 9, 2000

This review is from: Dunnottar (Paperback)
This book is a great read. It's loaded with action with a bit of romance running throughout the book. Once I got hooked, I couldn't lay it down. I would call it an historical novel, in that it is set in time of King Charles, with many references to other royalty and those of "noble" birth. I've read periodical articles that Janet Smith has written about the Keith Clan - those historically and genealogically accurate - however, this novel really brings the family alive!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not so historical, December 2, 2011
I could not get very far into this book because I could not get past all the inaccuracies. I was drawn to the series because my ancestry can be traced back to the Keiths. George Keith (William's brother) would have been my nineth generational grandfather. To begin with, at the time of the civil war, William was married to Elizabeth Seton, he did not marry Anne until 1654. The most glaring inaccuracy was the appearance of William's son Robert, the fact is William Keith had NO male heirs. In 1638 Elizabeth did give birth to a boy (also named William) but he died as an infant. I do realize that this is a piece of fiction, but for the most part, the most base facts should be accurate. I was disappointed that greater care did not go into research, the immediate errors made me unwilling to continue to see if the story was good or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dunnottar - A great book, October 27, 2011
By
Upendra Bapna (FALLS CHURCH, VA, US) - See all my reviews
This is a great book. As a fan of historical fiction, I would rate this book to be one of the best I have ever read. It was engaging, gripping and captured the time and place really well. The book gives a great insight into a powerful Scottish dynasty - the Keiths, who played an important role in both English and Scottish history. Janet Elaine Smith has done a masterful job of research and taking the readers on a wonderful journey through England and Scotland during that period.Dunnottar: The Keith Trilogy (Book 1)
