5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent game
I've been playing games online now for about two years and this game has me hooked! I just recently bought it based on how many people I saw playing it online, hundreds sometimes over one thousand! For twenty bucks you can't go wrong. You may be thinking "I've played Quake whats the point of another first person shoot em up?" This is a whole different experience...

I've been playing games online now for about two years and this game has me hooked! I just recently bought it based on how many people I saw playing it online, hundreds sometimes over one thousand! For twenty bucks you can't go wrong. You may be thinking "I've played Quake whats the point of another first person shoot em up?" This is a whole different experience than other shoot up games. First of all if you get shot dead...your dead! Theres no second chance, you have to start the game over, or in multiplayer you have to wait until everyone else is killed. This may be annoying at first when your as green as the grass but once you get the hang of it you'll appreciate it. Second- You can play co-op games with friends on your side against the computer controlled enemies in missions. They even allow you to talk to your teammates with a voice program. This is much better than trying to type commands or recomendations when you're hub deep in enemy fire. All in all you can't beat it for $20.00. You get the Rainbow Six CD, Eagle Watch CD and a big book telling you what to do! They also have many more games in the series you can buy, but I believe this was the first.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and realistic, with minor drawbacks, April 24, 2001
This review is from: Duplicate of B00002STNP -- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Gold - duplicate (CD-ROM)
I purchased Rainbow Six because I wanted to get away from the strategy genre (my favorite) and play some realistic shoot-em-up games. I didn't realize how realistic a game this would be. The graphics are good, the plotlines strong, and the reality just incredible! From the locations, to the weapons, gear, movement, and even the way bodies react when shot... wow!

The only drawbacks to this game are the strange inconsistencies in the artificial intelligence. Sometimes the AI goes berzerk and teams that you do not control begin acting like lost 6 year olds. There are also times, when playing against the computer, that you feel like you are cheating -- it is relatively easy to get into position and pick off enemy targets one by one because they do not react to each other's deaths.

I feel that the true potential of this game is achieved when playing multiplayer situations, when you eliminate the AI inconsistencies. A worthwile purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rainbow 6 is #1, March 2, 2003

OK, I bet you are thinking this is your average game that you blast away and kill people, but this game requiers stratagy and a fast trigger finger. It is also very challaging. This is the best anti-terrorist game I ever played. (I admit I never played any other R6 games, but this is the one you want to buy first.) R6 is so cool that I am going to buy other R6 games after I beat both R6 & Eaglewatch. This game has great graphics and alwsome gameplay. This is so realistic that sometimes I get so caught up in it that I feel like I am there. You get to pick a whole lot of REAL guns and equipment. This game includes the original R6, R6 Eaglewatch (an extended version of R6), & the R6 Stratagy guide. This guide is VERY helpful and covers R6 & Eaglewatch.

What can this game improve on?

1. Better teamwork. You have to lead a team of computer players into a danger zone and sometimes they get chicken and run or they keep running into the wall.
2. If you can't open a door or you take the wrong path sometimes you can't turn around because your team is all around you and they don't move.
3. When you rescue hostages (CPS) and you have to lead them up or down a ladder, sometimes they just stand there and get shot.
4. If the person leading the team gets shot going around a turn the team (CPS) needs to throw a granade or flash bang in or don't enter the room, but NO they go in one by one and get shot. So in other words, MORE INTELIGENT COMPUTER PLAYERS!

Thats my opinion and I hope you buy this game because even though it has glitches (what game doesn't?) it is da bomb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good counter-terrorism game,, April 6, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Duplicate of B00002STNP -- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Gold - duplicate (CD-ROM)
Rainbow Six: Gold is a must have game for the PC. Rainbow Six is almost the most realistic CT game ever (besides rainbow six: rogue spear) if you have never played the original Rainbow Six, the buy the original one instead of Rogue Spear, cause of the planing phase. In Rainbow Six: Gold, it comes with the original rainbow six, and the Eagle Watch expansion. The weapons in rainbow six are: (these are the Heckler & Koch's) MP5A2, MP5SD5, MP5K, .45 MK23 w/silencer or .40 USPw/silencer. It also includes the Colt CAR-15 and the M16A2. This game has 16 missions, with hard AI. The AI si not as screwy as the Delta Force series, though. If a terorist sees you, and he has hostages, POP!, there go the hostages. The terrorist AI reacts instantly, whcih makes it hard, but fun to try over and over. Definetly buy this game!!! If you'vereadthe novel Rainbow Six by Tom Clacny, thats whats the games made after. A must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Game is Great, a little old., December 23, 2000

This game is great , it was made afew years ago.The cut scenes are kind of old looking. But over all the game is great. The gold pack has both Rainbow Six and Mission Pack Eagle Watch. If you have the Rouge Spear and Mission Pack Urban Operations, and you want all the games you should get this. If you have the Rouge Spear or any of the other games you will not like the game as much, but you'll still like it.

Rainbow Six is a first person stealth shooter from Red Strom Entertainment. Rainbow Six is the codename for a team of special force who deal in missions like hostage rescue. There is not much of a plot, It is mostly dealing with the terrorists in different places and situations. Before the game starts you need to pick your team member, chalk out a plan, select weapons and then go terrorists hunting. R6 gameplay is not like other fps games, One gun shot is fatal and can kill you, This make it very challenging and intresting. One shot kills also also makes R6 very hard and almost impossible to finish in the single player gameplay, It does not have a save game option either. The Multiplayer games are the best things in R6 and they are very challenging and a lot of fun. Rainbow six is bad as a single player game but very good as a multiplayer game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game so far.....R6 GOLD!, January 16, 2002

I'm still somewhat new to this game having played only the single player missions and making it most of the way through at the medium difficulty level. So far i love it. I can't see how one could find a better value for the money. You get R6 a classic game with 16 interesting missions as well as eagle watch which gives you 5 more missions along with more multiplayer features.

R6 is based on realistic attack and rescue scenarios and with current events being what they are there is no better time to want to get some terrorists. Actually the game calls them tangos and the situations are not outrageous or unrealistic based on todays world. Some low life scum have taken over the embassy in brussels and the ambassador is hiding inside. Your mission is to get him out safe and take the embassy back. That's the first mission and so goes most of the missions. See this is realistic special opts type stuff. You're not shooting at cyborgs or weird looking aliens. These tangos are guys you can really learn to dislike in a hurry. What makes R6 different is that you work as a team. You get to do an entire mission plan. You pick up to 8 soldiers for the mission that can be assigned to one of 4 teams. You can have two teams of 4 or 4 teams of 2 or any variety you want. You outfit each team member with whatever gear you choose and then set waypoints for exactly where each team will go based on a map and whatever intelligence is available. What they do is also an option. You may have the red team handle the task of going in a building first clearing out whatever tangos are in the way while another team of guys goes in another door and engages the enemy there. Meanwhile you command the green team that seeks out a hostage or a bomb that needs to be disarmed. You may use flashbangs to stun the tangos as you enter a room or you may want to take out the terroist scum with a grenade. Of course you need to be careful not to harm any hostages. R6 gives you the opportunity to be creative and develop a plan that is your own. If you don't feel totally comfortable with planning in the beginning you have the option of using a default plan for the first 4 missions. That's fine but frankly it is not that hard. What makes the game a challenge is that one shot will kill you. Now if you get shot you can click the up arrow and take on the identity of the next team member and since you have 8 troops it doesn't seem too hard to complete a mission and it's not. The problem is that once a character dies that's it, he's gone and no longer available for any future missions. It won't take long to run out of quality people as you progress through the missions. For that reason i recommend you play the first two missions using only one or two characters. If it doesn't work just replay it and keep trying.

Any drawbacks? I know some have complained about the keyboard commands but frankly it's not that hard and since the strategy guide is included there should be no problem. The 0(ins) key on the key pad is the general key used to order your character to do things such as climb, open doors, pick locks, disarm bombs ect. Use the delete key to reload another magazine, the insert key will change your teams orders and page up will switch you to another team. The arrow keys are used to move and the number keys 1-4 will select your weapon. Why that's a problem with some i don't know. The plot or story line is not that interesting and the missions are only loosely connected to each other. Many of the missions are similar where you enter a building or structure and liberate a hostage but many missions have little extra twists. In one mission the leader tries to escape in a jeep so you better get him right away. In another mission the leader is holded up in the bow of a boat and if he hears invaders he will set off a bomb blowing up the whole ship. You don't have to get him just stay clear of that area and don't use flash blangs or grenades. A couple of missions you don't kill anybody at all. Rather your job is to stealthly slip past security to enter a building and in one case plant bugs on telephones and in an other case you extract important computer data. It's really a fun challenging game.

So far the single player is great and i recommend the game based on that aspect alone.

and it's still my favourite. Do not be shaken by the lack in playability in single player mode.
Multiplayer is where this game really shows its originality and playability. The AI in single player is incredibly bad, but with multiplayer, you're mainly against other people only in either team play or 'survival', and the realism associated with the game is what makes this gaming community so solid even now.
