4.0 out of 5 stars Duracell DC to AC Power Source Inverter 1000 Watt
I've used this about 3 times now and have NO complaints with one caveat. The Inverter does not come with a power cord. Luckily I had one left over from my previous inverter. With out it you'll have to buy/make one.

My family and I, ( all 12 of us ) camped at Badin Lake for a week and this Inverter died after a short time of working great, and it was working great. But after turning it off and on 3 or 4 times, She died and I could not bring her back. Thank God for my Genny, ( Read other review ). 4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, but always buy a bigger inverter than you need!, September 21, 2008

I originally bought this to power a 1000 W immersion heater, but the heater apparently pulls more like 1200 W. This inverter would trip almost immediately upon turning on the immersion heater. I exchanged this for a Cobra 1500 W inverter, and have never had a problem. So, don't get a 1000 W inverter if you have a 1000 W load.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Inverter, but not for powering UPS, August 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Duracell 813-1000-07 1,000 Watt DC to AC Power Inverter (Lawn & Patio)
This DC/AC inverter is extremely well built and very quiet, even when the thermal-control fan is running. The terminals on the back are heavy-duty and come with washers and nuts.

I was planning to power my computer and satellite modem on my farm by connecting my existing APC UPS to this inverter, but for some reason the fault LED lights up and the inverter shuts down. Another reviewer mentioned this problem already, explaining it was because of the modified sine-wave technology. Refer to the following article to determine whether you need a true-sine wave inverter: http://www.roadtripamerica.com/dashboarding/Power-Inverters.htm

Anyway, when you connect an inverter like this to a battery, you are actually replicating a UPS, with two major advantages when living in remote locations:
-The first is that you can choose the battery capacity you want, and therefore the amount of time you can run your AC-powered devices in-between charges;
-The second is that you have a wide choice of options when it comes to recharging your battery (solar, wind, alternator etc.).

There are smaller and bigger versions of this inverter on Amazon (mostly under the Xantrex brand, which manufactures it for Duracell), so it is easy to choose according to one's needs (in my case, 1000W is a huge overkill for the computer gear only, but I may be able to power a large LCD monitor or a TV in the future).

These inverters don't come with cables to hook it up. Thanks and God Bless, Rob.

4.0 out of 5 stars Modified Sine Wave!!, July 9, 2008

So I purchased this inverter so I could run my computer off of solar power. Thinking I could plug my UPS (uninterpretable power supply) into it. You CANT! If you plan on plugging a UPS into this, don't, they require a Pure Sine wave. Other than that this unit works great! I am currently charging my laptop and cell phone from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Inverter, June 29, 2008
This review is from: Duracell 813-1000-07 1,000 Watt DC to AC Power Inverter (Lawn & Patio)
I've owned many inverters; some were so-so and some were excellent. This unit features an on-demand fan, which makes it quiet when idle. It replaced an also excellent 2500 watt unit I fried by mistake after several flawless years. This one is doing all I ask, with no problems. I've had it for a month or so and expect no problems at all. I'd certainly buy it again and recommend it for anyone interested in a quality inverter.

seems to be a good inverter. Does everything i want it to without complaint on my boat, running off of solar-charged golfcart batteries. It is very nice that the thermostatically controlled fan doesn't turn on unless you are using a lot of juice. My old inverter had a fan that was always on, even when charging an ipod or cellphone - super-annoying! So, this one is great, so far!

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally a converter that runs my laptop, April 28, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Duracell 813-1000-07 1,000 Watt DC to AC Power Inverter (Lawn & Patio)
Laptop will power on and run and charge. Curtis inverters and a few others (lower capacity) would just beep and click off when the laptop was started. They were only good for recharging the laptop batteries when the laptop was off.

Would have liked a cigarette lighter plug in to power this inverter rather than the two kinda short leads that are supposed to be clipped to the car battery. I am supposed to install this under the hood or mount a battery inside my vehicle?

Works where others failed and for a good price so I will modify it to mount inside by extending the cables with some additional heavy gage wire and a fusible link. I would say do not even bother with sub 300 Watt inverters if you want to run a laptop.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent power for the price, April 23, 2008
This review is from: Duracell 813-1000-07 1,000 Watt DC to AC Power Inverter (Lawn & Patio)
I bought this item through the best deals link and so far it has delivered as advertised. I've used it coming and going to Chicago to power my powerbook after the internal battery ran out of juice. In all four flight segments it kept me charged until the annoying announcement to "turn off all personal electronic devices." It's a tad heavy at five pounds but works much better than the slightly lighter Energizer version I purchased last year at the airport. If the price comes back down from list I'll likely buy another one to keep in my car. Overall a good value when it's on sale.
