5.0 out of 5 stars Duracell CEF90NC Charger & Batteries, August 23, 2005
This review is from: Duracell CEF90NC 30 Minute Charger with 4 AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (Health and Beauty)
The Duracell CEF90NC battery charger is a great little product
that beats the competition hands down.

As a technician, I have used rechargeables for years from everything from pagers to flashlights. Until recently I
always used Eveready chargers and batteries. Eveready seemed to
do the job by saving me from running out and buying standard
batteries all the time, but I found myself constantly having
to recharge...even with minimal use, as the battery power never seemed to last very long. With Eveready I would have to recharge
every 2 to 3 days in order to ensure a fresh battery, but
with Duracell I can easily go weeks at a time in between charges
without a worry.

In addition, The Duracell charger charges so much faster than
Eveready did. The unit is advertised as a 30 minute charger, but I have found it to work in about half that time. And you never
have to worry about overcharging as the charger shuts off
automatically when full charge has been reached, and an LED
indicator lets you know the status of the batteries at all times.

All in all a great little charger...only wish I had bought one like this a long time ago.

Simply the best, only 30 minutes and your bateries AA/AAA are ready to go and comes with 4 NiMH AA bateries. It has a cooler for the bateries heat protection during charging. I recommend this product!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great charger but weak AA batteries, February 9, 2006

This review is from: Duracell CEF90NC 30 Minute Charger with 4 AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (Health and Beauty)
I love the charger. As the other reviewers noted, the charger does what it advertises -- charges the batteries in 30 min or less. I used to have another charger that charged in 4 hours or so and the waiting time was a great hassle. With this one, I don't have to worry about charging time.

The only drawback to this product is the weak batteries that this comes with. I wished they would have included the 2300 or the 2500 instead of the 2050. I have tried to use the 2050s on my digital camera and the batteries drain way too quickly when compared to my 2300 batteries I have. And so I use these Duracells for my rechargeable cordless mouse.

By the way, the instructions on these state that the charger must use rechargeable Duracell batteries -- don't worry about it -- you can use any NiMH rechargeable batteries on them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!, August 27, 2005
This review is from: Duracell CEF90NC 30 Minute Charger with 4 AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (Health and Beauty)
I purchased the charger with 4 battery plus another 8 pack. It charges extremely fast and it does hold the charge a lot longer than other rechargeable batteries. Great product from Duracell!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick convinenient, and AWSOME, July 13, 2007

This review is from: Duracell CEF90NC 30 Minute Charger with 4 AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (Health and Beauty)
I've had this charger for about 3 years now, I bought it long ago from Wal-Mart back before the only chargers they sold were cheap slow and unreliable (my sister has the one they sell there now).

What most people don't consider when buying a charger is how you have to plug it in; with most of them you have to go and find an open plug and just use that until they are done... not this one. With the long cord they give you with the Duracell Charger, I have it plugged in under my desk, while the charger itself sits nice and neat on top like it belongs there. It just makes it a thousand more times convenient. I just pop the dead batteries in and go.

The auto shut off factor is also VERY nice, I'll wander off and forget I had them in the charger but I don't have to worry because it's got me covered. Then there are those times I want my batteries when I'm running off to go somewhere and I want batteries for my camera or mp3 player, and that sucker charges them FAST. The only time I've ever seen it take 30 min was when the battery was completely and totally dead, otherwise, it only takes 5-10 minutes tops.

I guess the only negative comment I have about this product is that it is a bit bulky for traveling. Though all around, I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed reviews: Very fast, but construction a little flimsy, April 17, 2006

This product performs to expectations. I like that it can be used with AA and AAA batteries; and the speed with which it recharges the batteries is excellent.

The construction is very lightweight. On the one hand, this is an advantage if you need to take it on the road. On the other hand, it is so lightweight that if feels a little flimsy. It probably couldn't handle being dropped multiple times.

And while it's great that the product can be expanded to fit batteries of different sizes, the mechanism used to switch between the two sizes is a very basic mechanical sliding device that could probably get worn quickly. The construction of the slider doesn't seem like it would be adequate for customers who would need to recharge AA and AAA batteries on a frequent and consistent basis.

But overall, it's a good product for the price (since it also includes 4 NiMH batteries).

5.0 out of 5 stars Could this device "explode?"--some info--, January 16, 2006
This review is from: Duracell CEF90NC 30 Minute Charger with 4 AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (Health and Beauty)
I share the other writer's concern about the warning about having to buy Duracell batteries. The device is meant to charge 1800 batteries. Because it is a fast charger, it pumps more current into the batteries faster than some other chargers. If someone puts in a battery that is NOT NiMh, or if they put in a LOWER CAPACITY battery that is NiMh, there is a possibility that the battery could explode. Similarly, if someone puts in a low grade, poorly made battery that could have a label that says 1800 but is counterfeit, there is the possibility that such a battery could explode.

BUT, if the owner uses other 1800, or 2100, or 2300, or 2500, or 2800 capacity Nickel Metal Hydride batteries from a reputable company, even a company other than Duracell, such as Eveready, then it is VERY, VERY unlikely that there is danger. But I understand why Duracell has to put in the disclaimer about only using their product, since they don't want to be responsible if someone uses lower capacity or inferior batteries in this device and then has a serious problem.

This charger really is what it says. 30 minutes charging, and with the fan to keep the cells cool. Haven't had any problems with it since I got it

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Duracell CEF90NC 30 Minute Charger with 4 AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (Health and Beauty)
I've only had this charger and the batteries a month and half but so far I'm very happy with them. The charger took a little longer than 30 min to charge, but that might be because I charged 4 AA batteries rather than 2 batteries (It can also charge AAA batteries). I use these batteries for my wireless keyboard and my mouse and there's no sign that I need to charge them again any time soon.

The batteries are rated at 2050 mAh though, which is ok, but nothing spectacular. Of course, it should be noted that fast chargers are not as good as trickle chargers (>12 hr charge) at maintaining the battery (repeated charging results in an inevitable decrease in max charge).
