Worth the price,

Works fine. It comes with 1/2 charge. Don't use it. Follow the instructions and give it that first long charge and it will work fine. I am in the country so a low tire can become a real issue. I just went out with the machine and topped off a low tire no problem. I had to try the electric because it goes out here from time to time. I plugged in a lamp and it ran for 6hrs. and 15 mins. And I am guessing it will run heat tape for 10 hrs or more. Important when you lose power at 10 below. And I feel confident if I have a low car battery this will work as advertised. Just to be able to get a car started at 5 in the morning and not be late for work is worth the purchase price. And the real reason I wanted it was for in the spring and during the summer for the lawn tractor. Every year at least one tire is low. And every year I get at least one slow leak 5 mins. before being done. This year I am ready.

Excellent Buy - Great at what it does,
This review is from: Duracell Powerpack 450 Jumpstarter with Built-In 150 PSI Air Compressor (Automotive)
I am very impressed with this product. It is a perfect companion in outdoor fun and emergency. I used it outdoors to power music system and charge my cell phone. It has AC/DC outlets and a USB port that can charge a vareity of electronic devices.
Air compressor and detachable jumper cables are very handy. Infact, I used air compressor to inflate my tires and it worked well. Oh! not to forget its user-friendly voice technology for step-by-step instructions. Go for it, you will not regret having it!

CHARGING IS COMPLETED!!!,

This thing is so terrible... I managed to air up one flat tire before the battery was low.
Now, when I plug it in within 1 minute it starts saying "CHARGING IS COMPLETED!!!" really loud every minute. Why on earth would I want a voice indicator that this stupid thing is charged? Do I want it to wake me up in the middle of the night?! Not to mention, it doesn't actually charge. The status confirms "BATTERY IS LOW!!!" as soon as I unplug it. What a piece of junk. Terrible design, awful, ridiculously loud, and pointless voice command, and it is broken after hardly any use. This is just a junky Xantrex box that Duracell wrapped a stupid voice command module on and did no quality control for. Don't buy this!

I bought this item as a Gold Box deal and was somewhat doubtful how well it will work since it received below average reviews. But I decided to give it a shot and knowing that amazon has a great return policy, I knew there was nothing to lose. So once it came, I carefully followed and read the manual making sure to do what it says. It requires a good thorough charge of I believe 2 days (48hrs) and then after using it, it requires another 36hrs of a charge, which isnt bad assuming that it wont be used on a daily basis ofcourse. So after completely reading the manual, I left it charging but no later than 1 hour, it says that the charge was complete. I was kind of confused at this point because it need a charge of 2 days. But never the less, I left it charging for 2 days realizing that it probably only is carrying an hours worth of battery life. So now I tested it out by using the flash light and the computered voice says that it will last for 2 hours long on flash light mode, when it was suppose to last much longer than that. This is where I knew something wasn't right. I charged it again hoping it will do something different but with no success, I decided on returning it. The return was very easy, since it was a faulty device, UPS came to pick it up at my door and I opted to get another one because I wanted it to work. So once I received the other powerpack, it was the same and similar problem that it wouldn't carry a sufficient charge during the initial set up. Again, after the first charge, no more than 2 hours, it says it is fully charged but when I tested the air supply unit, it last for only an 1 hour when it was suppose to last for much longer than that. I heard that this device comes charged half way but when the instructions clearly state to give it an initial charge of up to 48 hours and it says that it is fully charged after an hour, I knew something was wrong. I tested it and still to no avail, it would not supply enough power and would not last long enough as mentioned in the manual book.
In the manual, it clearly states that when the powerpack is fully charged, using the flash light should last XX hours. Using the air supply should last XX hours, etc. I tested it and it didn't last as long as it should. Not worth my money.

This product is very good as it says what it says.
What I liked about this product is that you can replace the internal battery which will make it last even longer. So I highly recommend this battery to anyone who needs some recharging.

Duracell Pwoerpack 450 - Didn't Work as Advertised,

I had very mixed feelings about buying this Duracell product - probably because the reviews were so mixed. I bought it for a camping trip where I would need some limited electricity. The product arrived and I was very careful to follow all of the charging instructions. I let the product charge a full day longer than outlined in the product manual. When I finally turned it on, the compressor and the built-in light both worked. However, the battery would not power any of the electrical devices that I plugged into it - all of which were within the wattage/amp range of the device. I tried several items, including: a 60 watt lamp, a small air pump for my inflatable mattress, a small fan, and a laptop computer. The USB port did charge my iTouch iPod and my cell phone. I returned the product to Amazon within 30 days and they refunded my money.
The concept is a great concept - however the product did not live up to the hype - too bad, because I was really hopeful that it would have worked as described.

I purchased this more than a year ago for a camping trip; gave up on it w/in 3 days of attempting to use it according to the directions provided. Never reliably provided any power. Incredibly low quality. Just now going through my receipts and was reminded what a waste of money it was.

I'm not sure about this Duracell 450 charger. I've had it a little over a year and it doesn't accept a charge anymore. The instructions say to charge it once every three months, but if you slip up and go a little longer, apparently you kill it. The internal battery is "user-replaceable" which means, I guess, you have to shell out more money for the most expensive part.
To be fair, I live in the southwest and it does get hot (up to 110-118 degrees summer temps), and I carried it around in the trunk of the car, which gets hot. I suppose this killed it. However, we people here in extreme temps need a jump start too, Duracell should come up with a more climate-resilient battery. But, bottom line, the charger doesn't do anyone any good if it has to be coddled in a cool room somewhere and not carried around in the trunk of one's car! It's ridiculous to waste money on a car jump starter/tire inflater that will end up failing in a year or so because of extreme outdoor temps. And now, because of the time, I can't return it. I'm just glad I, or anyone in my family wasn't stranded somewhere when it was discovered it doesn't work.

So, with a hurricane about to hit, I get this thing out of the trunk of the car and bring it into the house to use in case we lose power. I last charged it three months ago, so I need to charge it up again and guess what? The wall wart charger is dead. As a doornail. Checked the wall outlet, it's fine. Pull out a voltmeter, and sure enough, zero current coming out of the charger. Considering we've had this thing a bit over a year and a half, and recharge it every three months, that means that the wall wart died after its 5th or 6th use.
Sure, I can probably go order another charger... but in the meantime, I can't use this product whose only purpose is to be there when you need it. I've had hundreds of DC chargers... I can;t recall the last time I had one die on my for no reason. Kinda of telling that the warranty for this thing is a whopping 6 months. When the chips are down and you're stranded, do you want to rely on a product that the manufacturer washes their hands of after 6 months? |
