I really don't see how this product (Duracell Ion Speed 1000 Advanced Charger) can be advertised as an 'Advanced' charger. It has exactly the same electrical specs and limitations as the old Duracell CEF14, which is advertised as a 'Value' charger.

- Just like most value chargers, it can only charge in pairs. This is very inconvenient if you have appliances that require odd number of cells.
- The charging current is relatively low at 360mA for AA, 180mA for AAA.
- No fancy LCD panel to display battery status. No Discharge/Refresh function, etc.

On the other hand, the 4x AA batteries included in this package are very good. They are advertised as "Precharged" and have a rated capacity of '2400mAh. But according to my La Crosse BC1000 Battery Charger/Analyzer, their measured average capacity is higher at around 2550mAh. This is exactly the same capacity as the far more expensive Sanyo Eneloop XX AA batteries. In fact, based on their mechanical and electrical characteristics, I'm convinced that Duracell Ion Speed '2400mAh' AA cells are just rebranded Sanyo XX '2500mAh' AA cells. The difference in capacity ratings is purely marketing trick.

Bottom Line:
This Duracell Ion Speed 1000 package is a good value if you never have to charge odd number of cells.

It is a great charger but the batteries that came with it started to die after a year. It charges batteries in about 6 hours. It stops overcharge. While it's charging it has a red light that turns green when fully charged. Very compact and doesn't get in the way.

I have both ion speed 500 and this one, the 1000. This one comes with 4 rechargeable battery's as opposed to the 500 which comes with only 2 battery's. The 1000 is a better deal, charges at a somewhat quicker time, is a compact no frills charger that does the job. I use these battery's mostly in my PELICAN 2370 LED flashlight for work. I was going thru a lot of battery's before I went rechargeable. I like the ease of use of this charger and the smart auto shut off. If your looking for a cheap no frills plug it in and forget it charger than this is the one. I highly recommend these battery's and this 1000 charger.

I will never buy regular batteries again! Well if I don't have too lol. I love these I'm always charged up and ready to go, the power last a long time, the charging takes a bit of time, about 6 hours or less but still worth it, I got extra's batteries while one set is charging the others is ready to use. The charger does AA or AAA. In time of emergency I can see these being a huge help too.
