Great Little Fan,
By
This review is from: Duracraft DT-75 Personal 2-Speed Fan (Kitchen)
I bought this fan back in 1996, my first year in college. I needed something inexpensive to move air because I slept on the top bunk in my dorm room and the heat just stagnated up there. I actually suspended it from some pipes that went overhead through the room and it blew from my head toward my feet. I still have this fan and it's still quiet and works excellent. I'm surprised they still make the exact same fan. Now that I know, I'm thinking about buying several more.

Excellent Fan with Easy-To-Use Front-Mounted Controls,
By Kathy S. from RI "KathyKranston" (Providence, RI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Duracraft DT-75 Personal 2-Speed Fan (Kitchen)
I own three of these, and I may buy another one just in case they ever stop making it. I especially like the convenience of the front-mounted control switch. I wish more fan manufacturers used front-mounted controls because it's so much easier to use. I can't stand loud fans, and I find this one to be relatively quiet. I keep one on my desk at work, and the guy in the next cubicle says he can't even hear it. It would be better if you could change the angle of the airflow, however. And I would also prefer some neutral colors that blend into the background better such as tan or white. That said, it's still a great little fan for the price.

I bought this fan to place behind my receiver to keep the air circulating; to keep the unit cool. I replaced a Vornado Zippi Desk Fan Vornado FA1-0007-06 Zippi Desk Fan, Black, hoping that this fan might even be quieter than the Vornado, after reading its reviews. Well, it's not. It makes as much noise, and maybe even a little more. It is also larger than I thought it would be, but that's no big deal...the size still works fine for what I wanted it for. I wanted something dark (the Vornado is black) so it wouldn't be too obvious sitting in the cabinet behind my receiver. The shiny front plate doesn't really allow that, but it is still not as obvious as, say, a white fan would be.
Although it is a little pricier, I think something like the Air King 6-inch fan Air King 6-Inch 2-Speed Circulating Fan #9146 would work better for my purpose, if it only came in black. I do like the on-off-fan speed knob on the front instead of behind on the Duracraft; it makes it very easy for me to access with it sitting behind my receiver. I have not really been bothered about the knob being "slippery" or difficult to turn as other have mentioned. However, I do have it plugged into a switched outlet on my receiver, allowing the fan to come on automatically when the receiver comes on, so I don't really use the control very often. Anyway, this is a good, basic fan. It is not noisy, but it is also not what I would call whisper quiet. I'm sure most buyers will be happy with their purchase. It puts out a good air flow, but be aware, as stated in other reviews, it does not tilt. I am not disappointed in it, but it is not quite what I thought it would be on the quiet scale.

April 12, 2010:
I've been waiting for this fan to be available since it got great reviews about how powerful and quiet it is. I decided to buy it the second it's available (amazon does a bad job of telling you if it's available by the way, you have to check yourself) and I turn it on low to try it out and it makes a squeaking sound as if it wasn't oiled properly. On high, it is less noticeable, but aside from that, I would still NOT say that it is quiet. I bought this to replace my Seville mini tower and they are about equal in decibels. The reviews were right about it being strong, not high velocity fan strong, but strong for a personal fan. However, it is the same, strength wise, as my Seville. All 3 of them have the squeaking sound so I did not just get 'unlucky'. I might just put it a room or two away to blow air in so I won't hear the annoying squeaking. I think next time I might just spend a little more and get a Vornado. March 06, 2011: The squeaks are gone and this little fan is a good personal fan, but again does not stand up to par with velocity fans. I do have that it does not oscillate, but it does have a few good points. Good: - small - good for a personal fan - quiet on LOW - cheap - 120v at 0.6A = 9.97632 watts Bad: - does not oscillate - very loud on high (no idea why the other reviews said otherwise) - falls over a lot since it's on 3 legs. Bottom-line: looking for a cheap office fan? get it! If you need one for the summertime because it gets too hot? DO NOT GET THIS ONE, save up some money and get an oscillating high velocity fan, but don't forget to look at the wattage.

I bought this fan to use at work, which tends to be a bit hotter than I prefer. It replaced a Honeywell fan that was larger (and noisier!) than this one. The Duracraft is much quieter in fact, so that the fan doesn't distract me while working on projects or meeting with people in my office. In most respects I love this fan. It's quiet, well made, and inexpensive. My sole complaint is that the fan doesn't tilt vertically. Since I like to put my fan on the floor, it means I have to prop it up with a book to get it aimed correctly. It would be really nice if the fan had a basic tilting mechanism for that purpose.

I mean, this thing is cheap and for that it gets a couple stars. It looks pretty good and it is quiet. What sucks is the knob on the front. I have to hold the thing from the back with one hand while i turn the speed dial because it's too light. I kind of turn if i don't have to hold it from the back, but usually it just slides out of position on my desk. So, producers, put the controls on the back as pushdown buttons, or put some rubber grips on the bottom. Also, and this is the only reason I give it 4 out of 5 stars, there is only Low and High speeds. Low is way to fast and is not comfortable on a desk because the aire just dries out your eyes. I have to turn the fan in another direction where I only get a small amount of wind. Luckily there is a wall behind me, otherwise my peers would certainly complain of wind. And this is on the Low speed.
Still, cheap, quiet, nice looking, small, but doesn't rotate, so gets 4/5 stars.

I bought this fan for my desk at work and I was surprised at the blowing power. This is the first fan I've ever owned that I keep on LOW instead of HIGH. Works great and keeps me cool on days where my work decides its best to save money by turning off the air conditioning. The fascists.

This little fan is great!,

I purchased this for my desk, and I've been pleasantly surprised by it. It's just the right size. This is the first fan of this size I've bought, so I can't really compare to another similar one, but I think the airflow is pretty good.
The actual fan doesn't really look like it does in the picture though. The finish is more of a flat gray. No biggie, just FYI. |
