The heater works great, having a remote to control the flame and heat is very convenient.

Pros:
~Fairly realistic flames
~For those of you in hot climates who still want to have the calming effects of a fire, you can leave the "flame" on without having the heat on
~"Flame" height can be adjusted - high or low
~Temperature can be adjusted
~Feels oh-so-nice when I get in from being out in the freezing Colorado weather - I can switch it on, stand in front of it, and get that warm-clothes-from-the-dryer feeling
~Compact, but not so small as to seem Mickey Mousey
~Lightweight - easily moveable to other areas of the house
~Quiet - the fan is barely audible
~The unit (on the sides, top, and back) does not heat up - can touch without getting burned
~Functional door on the front opens up to reveal control panel, or you can control it with the included remote
~Setup was fast - my husband had it done in about 5 minutes

Cons:
~We have about a 15' x 15' living area. It is fairly open (no walls between the kitchen & dining room, so adding approximately another 25' x 15' with those two areas), and so the heater doesn't really "warm up" the room. Which is understandable since the space is as open as it is. It does, however, take that little chill out of the air. The furnace kicks on about half as often as before.
~The cord is pretty short - I'd estimate probably about 3 feet - so you have to either keep it close to the plug in or get an extension cord.
~Remote doesn't work from too far away, and must be basically right in front of the unit to make it work
~If you're really cold (as I am when I come in from being out in the -4 degree air)you have to stand / sit within 3 feet of it or it won't get you warmed up.

Even with the "cons", I LOVE this little heater. It's been really nice to have to take that chill out of the house and to stand next to when coming in out of the cold!

I got this to heat the end of my hallway and the rooms adjacent to it. Instead of plopping down an ugly old space heater I decided to get this. It's a beautiful decoration and it heats very well - the hallway and the rooms near it stay nice and warm, just what I needed! The flame isn't THAT realistic but it's probably the best looking flame in an electric stove. The Dimplex flames look more realistic but the fire looks like it's nearly dead, this one looks like it's roaring and alive.

I got my stove just as the wether started changing. I took it out of the box and it was pumping heat right away, I had many compliments on it and it added the perfect mood to my living room. Until about two weeks after it came, that is when it started making this loud whining noise. I thought it was the heater part but after removing the back I found it was the motor that rotated the flame effect. I just disconnected the motor. I am going to contact Duraflame and see what they are going to do. Bottom line is it's a great stove that puts out lots of heat but it shouldn't start breaking after two weeks of use.

My Duraflame Large Stove Heater, DFS-750-1 was received December 13, 2012. On 7th 2013 the heater blower and heat ceased working. No matter how many times I unplugged and went through the “reset process” indicated in the manual – still did not work. I called their customer service number and the woman had me run through the reset program again. She said it sounded like the blower is not working and they would send a new one. I told her this unit is a mere 3 weeks old and that their standard shipping of “leaving the warehouse in 3 days, then ground UPS” was not acceptable and that it need to be a minimum of 2 day UPS. She told me she understood and would call me back on the 8th to confirm. NO PHONE CALL WAS MADE by this customer service rep. Some customer service I remember thinking. The new blower unit showed up about a week later. No email notification – even though my email is in their system when I registered the unit. Again, some customer service……. Approximately a week later my husband arrived home and attempted to replace the unit based on their photos of instruction. Unfortunately the white and black wires were reversed in their position on the blower unit compared to the one installed that did work for 3 weeks. NOT BEING AN ELECTRICTION – he called the company on January 22, 2013 as the previous Monday was a holiday. He was given the name of a Jackie to call with a Florida prefix. He left a message, on the 24th still no return call and left 2 messages that day. We still have not received a return call from Jackie. On the 25th I called and insisted on speaking to a supervisor. I was left on hold for 6 minutes so had to hang up and call again. I again insisted on speaking to a supervisor – this time I was placed on hold momentarily and a supervisor came one.Read more ›

We bought this little stove in November because we were about to go through another winter with $700+ monthly heating oil bills. In the first month, it paid for itself. Our oil bill was about $350, and the heater, which ran nearly 24/7, hiked our electric bill by $60. It's been paying for itself over and over again every month. We have it in our living room, which is about 18' X 25'. The ceilings are low, and I'm sure that makes it more efficient. We get enough heat to be comfortable there, and in the adjoining kitchen. In the coldest months, our oil bill remained steady, and the electric bill rose by $90 one month, and $70 another month. Last year I paid in oil alone over $2000. The difference was so noticeable, our oil delivery man asked us what we were doing different.
The exterior does not pose a hazard to our animals, since it doesn't heat up.
The fake flame is nice. At Christmas, I hung little baby stockings on the stove. Now that spring is near, we will probably keep the "flame" running. It looks cozy.
This week, we found the fan and heating element were not working, but, in my father's words, "When in doubt, follow directions." We read the booklet and found that charge can build up in the elements. The solution? Just unplug it from the wall for a few hours. The booklet also gives you information on how to get replacement parts, if ever needed.
But at the rate it is saving us money, even if we had to replace it, we would still be ahead of the heating cost game.
