2.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy
Don't buy this product unless you rarely need to use it. If you drop it, the red plastic bottom will crack and then not stay on. Also the plastic threads on the lid that screws into the base can splinter off into the medication. And with large pills, the device just gets wedged shut where it won't come loose or tighten down and crush. We crush dozens of pills a day and...

We crush dozens of pills a day and have gone through way too many of these. Unfortunately it's the only model our pharmacy sells.

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, with limitations, November 26, 2009
This review is from: Duro-Med Pill Crusher (Health and Beauty)
This pill crusher will work, but with some limits. Small pills, and cheap generic pills will crush with ease. I have found that with large, hard pills, I must split them into 2 or more pieces before I crush them.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT AS DESCRIBED, October 1, 2010

I bought this crusher because the picture on Amazon showed it as a smooth pill crusher without grooves. When it arrived, I saw that the picture on the box also showed a smooth crusher. However, when I opened the product I found jagged grooves on the holder and crusher. I promptly returned it without using it because I have used crushers like this before and they do not crush the pill entirely. I am requesting a refund.

2.0 out of 5 stars This will gum those pills to pieces!, July 6, 2011
This review is from: Duro-Med Pill Crusher (Health and Beauty)
DRINKS MIXERS, FROTHERS, MIXING CUPS & PILL CRUSHERS. Having been forced to become my own compounding pharmacist - due to the fact that MS prevents me from swallowing pills whole - a mixing machine is de rigueur for my home. I have a certain amount of water, ground pills, Equal fake sugar and honey that have to be measured and mixed.

The result of all this measuring and mixing is what is called an "oral suspension". Such a concoction requires a bevy of items used in its manufacture - hence my "drink-mixing-self-compounding-pharmacist" series of reviews.

This Duro-Med pill crusher is a pocket mortar-pestle deal that will really leave you panting and sweating after use. Why, you ask innocently? Because unlike the EZY crusher, this has no handy crushing teeth. Just a dull old pestle to grind the hell out of the palm of your hand.

I keep one for emergencies, such as squishing spiders (not really), but you'd really need old Samson to come along and do this for you. It is not easy work grinding away at a tough pill with this thing. Instead of teeth, it has gums! Somebody get it some dentures and make a fortune with the new invention!

1.0 out of 5 stars Picture is Wrong, April 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Duro-Med Pill Crusher (Health and Beauty)
They have changed the design of this item. The inside has ridges so the pills are broken into large chunks that do not dissolve easily. It is supposed to make pills a fine powder for easy swallowing (like a BC Powder) or for mixing in liquids. It was basically usless and it is not at all as pictured.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what it should be, March 10, 2011

Bought this one and like other reviewers have written it will not crush the bigger vitamin and calcium pills. You have to break them into 4 pieces and then it does pretty well. I have bought three different kinds in search of the best one and this isnt it. The blue and clear plastic Apex is the best so far because of its design. It crushes the pills this one doesnt.

Works better than my old one, and the threads line up really well, so it's harder to cross them up. It seems idiot proof, which works well for me.

This product shows a round top that crushes pills easily. The picture is exactly the one I had from a hospital to crush my sons pills with. I ordered three, but when received the top was flat and was grated. The inside bottom was grated also and made the medication stick to the top and bottom, therefore my son wasn't getting the full dose. They were returned.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not good either., December 7, 2009
This review is from: Duro-Med Pill Crusher (Health and Beauty)
This crusher does a good job on small to medium size pills, but has problems with large or very hard pills. There is little grip area on the cap, so it can be difficult to exert enough pressure with your hands, especially if you have arthritis. We go through 2 or 3 of these a year because they eventually crack or become too difficult to turn. The plastic cap on the pill container end is always the first to go. Looking for a better solution.
