5.0 out of 5 stars No assembly, great tension, good workout
This little stepper is a terrific value. Solid as a rock, small footprint, zero setup required, and you get a fabulous workout. I can't imagine that there is a better mini stepper, particularly for the small price. I bought this model based on a Wall St. Journal recommendation and have to agree with them that it is an excellent machine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken welds
I bought this based on Patricia's review and loved it for the first month, then noticed it making a strange sqeaking noise. Upon closer inspection I noticed multiple welds breaking (I'm 185 lbs). Now I'm not so happy with it, no warrenty, Amazon won't take it back. Good thing I have a friend with a wire welder who can fix it for me.

I just got this Duro-Med mini stepper to replace one that I had gotten at Wal-Mart. This one definitely seems better. I like that you can adjust the tension to vary your work-out. Not many of the mini-steppers have that feature and so far, it is working very well. Plus, I read in a Wall Street Journal article that this stepper was picekd as the "best value" mini-stepper.

I wanted an exercise machine for those days when the weather won't let me run outdoors and I didn't want it to use up a lot of floor space. Based heavily on these write-ups I bought the Duro-Med Mini Stepper and it suits my needs perfectly. (I got it at Amazon-- it shipped quickly and free-- what more can you ask?) I've had it 3 months and it's worked great-- sturdy, quiet and no weld problems, no squeaking. The tension control is a great feature: crank it looser for a faster pace and aerobic workout or tighter for a slow pace and thigh strengthening.

By the way, if you do find a squeak problem at some point there's also a helpful write-up here:

I think it's the same machine, just a different seller.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great... Until it breaks,, September 28, 2007
This review is from: Duro-Med Mini Stepper Exerciser (Health and Beauty)
I've bought two of these in the past year... Both had welds snap rendering them unusable.

The second one happened within two months of buying it. I'm 195 lbs, not too heavy for something like this.

Great product, though, if you want to buy a new one every few months but I sure as hell won't be.

I bought this based on WSJ reviews. At first it was fine. I was happy with a sturdy piece of equipment. Then after a few uses the squeaking began. Ok WD40 once a week. Then after about three weeks the bolt that held the pulley broke rather suddenly. I was able to fix that, I used a higher grade bolt. Then after about two months the steel cable that runs from each step through the pulley broke. Well that is fatal. I tried rigging up a cable but wouldn't hold. I couldn't get a replacement part. (anyone find a source for parts let me know) Tried the duro med site. Leave a message, never a person. Did it every day for a weeks, nothing. I weight 180 used it 2-3 times a week and it made it a couple months. Maybe if you are little and don't use it much it may last longer. I say save your money and go out and walk.

2.0 out of 5 stars broken welds, no warranty, December 25, 2007
This review is from: Duro-Med Mini Stepper Exerciser (Health and Beauty)
I do not recommend this mini stepper.

First of all, even if you set the resistance to the hardest setting, it's way too easy. It's hard to get a workout.

Second, it broke after 8 months of light to moderate use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced at Amazon, January 2, 2008
This review is from: Duro-Med Mini Stepper Exerciser (Health and Beauty)
This product seems to be overpriced at Amazon.com. The mini-stepper seems to cost 66.50$ at other online vendors (just google by the name of the product).

1.0 out of 5 stars Lasted less than two years, December 17, 2011
By
This review is from: Duro-Med Mini Stepper Exerciser (Health and Beauty)
While it worked it was ok except for a knocking sound that went away after a few minutes. Then one of the shocks started losing pressure after a few months but would be ok after a while. This shock finally died after less than two years, making the stepper useless junk. It wasnt even being heavily used. I don't know what people's expectations are, but this isn't a durable product that you can be sure of using for more than a year, if my experience is anything to go by.
