5.0 out of 5 stars Still using after 7 years
My husband and I have been using the Therabeads moist heat packs for 7 years now. We use them daily and find that they last 2 - 3 years. I am just now replacing a set we have had for some time. We have tried other brands, but always return to this product.

I am not sure why the other poster is complaining of a smell as I don't have a smell with mine. I can tell...

1.0 out of 5 stars Duro-Med Therabeads King Size 12x16 Heat Pack w/ Cover
As a former college athlete who routinely used hydroculators for muscle/tendon therapy, the Therabeads was a big let down. Unlike some other reviews I read before buying this product, there was no smell. But I have to microwave the pad for 2 minutes on each side for a total of 4 minutes to get the pad hot enough for use, NOT the 1 minute promised. The pad stays hot for...

I am not sure why the other poster is complaining of a smell as I don't have a smell with mine. I can tell you that I only heat mine for about 4 minutes in the microwave and it gets very hot in that period of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Heating Pad EVER, March 23, 2008
This review is from: Duro-Med Therabeads King Size 12 x 16 Moist Heat Pack with Cover (Health and Beauty)
This is the only heating pad my husband wanted after heart surgery. If you have tendonitis, you will find the moist heat penetrates so much better than regular heat. As for the "smell," after some use, it needs to be washed. I throw the entire thing into the washer on hot water, no detergent, and it is good as new and ready to go again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Duro-Med Therabeads King Size 12x16 Heat Pack w/ Cover, November 4, 2008
This review is from: Duro-Med Therabeads King Size 12 x 16 Moist Heat Pack with Cover (Health and Beauty)
The pad stays hot for only about 15 minutes, and I'm told in the instructions to wait 2 hours before reheating. This is not a serious tool for healing muscles. I should have bought a real hydroculator pad(s) that releases significantly more moist heat, the kind that deeply penetrates the muscle to increase blood flow and induce healing. The Therabeads pad releases a minimal amount of moist heat that fails to do the job in my opinion.

My advice is to buy the real hydroculator pads (buy several), spend a little more time and effort to heat them on the stove in hot water (or buy a hydroculatoe heater), wrap them in a towel (as is done routinely for muscle therapy among collegiate athletes) and you won't regret it. Therabeads is for those that have never experienced hydroculator pads used by atheletic trainers to heal athletes with injuries. Therabeads rates a 1 on a scale of 10 as to effectiveness compared with hydroculator pads.

Moist heat is the most amazing difference - you will not go back to a regular old heating pad. Take it to work if needed & pop it in the microwave. I have owned mine 11 years and it still works as well today as it did the day I bought it. Purchased for my MIL as a gift after she used mine and loved it. You will not be dissapointed.

I have a severe scoliosis and use the heat pack frequently. I have had one for years and love it. That is why I give it as a gift to other people who could benefit.

This review is from: Duro-Med Therabeads King Size 12 x 16 Moist Heat Pack with Cover (Health and Beauty)
If you carefully follow the heating instructions, the therabeads are extremely effective and it only has a smell if it is COOKED.

This is the worst I have ever had my back hurt and I am totally Thanking G*d for this thing!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Works very well - for awhile!, April 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Duro-Med Therabeads King Size 12 x 16 Moist Heat Pack with Cover (Health and Beauty)
I would give this product five stars for its immediate value in providing excellent moist heat relief. So, five stars for that. However, I have had trouble with this and its differently sized cousins wearing out fairly fast and "rupturing" little beads everywhere. Patching the hole is not a good option with anything I have tried yet. And those little beads provide hours of cleanup fun when this happens!

So, not great for any regular use until the company decides to make them to last. Since the company makes more money when they wear out, I do not think they ever will make a stronger cover. But it works wonderfully for awhile. If you need to use this sort of thing a lot, get an electric heating pad and use this only when moist heat is a must.
