This device does help somewhat in propping a cane on a table depending on the table's edge. My kitchen table has a rounded edge and the holder doesn't work at all on it, but it does work reasonably well on a simple square edge. The device is a bit difficult to install onto the cane as you have to manually pull the edges apart (unless I missed some key button or opening mechanism) and the spring is very tight so it will not slip once installed. It only extends away from the cane a short distance, about 1.5", which is good in that it doesn't get in the way, but not as good for giving much gripping ability and the little foam pad isn't much help.
I use a flip-seat `cane', which has got a different balance than a regular cane because the seat part makes the top a bit heavier, plus my walking stick/flip-seat cane doesn't have a 'crook' as a regular cane does so I have a harder time propping it against something. I can't hang it over the back of a chair for example. I'd really hoped this gadget would help me out. It does help somewhat by allowing me to prop the cane on some surfaces so it's not a total bust, but doesn't completely solve my problem. Also the directions indicate I could prop the cane against a table by setting the gadget so it pressed up against the under side of the table, but I found it very difficult to move once on the cane shaft so wasn't able to adjust its height to a slightly higher or lower table top.
Bottom line, it helps in some situations, but not all.
