Product Description

The Duromax XP4400EH has a dual fuel system that operates on either standard gasoline or cleaner burning liquid propane which can more than double you generator's run time. With the XP4400EH, operating on propane will not gum up or foul your generator's carburetor and will give you quick, reliable starts every time. It only takes a few seconds to switch over from regular gas to propane and with the flexible line, you can easily hook up any size propane tank including the one from your barbeque. When the ambient temperature is under 40 degrees propane by nature contracts and the pressure within the cylinder is not powerful enough to push enough gas into the carburetor to START the engine. The solution to this is to start the engine on gasoline for a few minutes and then switch over to propane.

Excellent, compact and very quiet generator.

I was told a customer service person would be in contact with me about the issue, and about returning the generator.

I just received this generator a few days ago. The packing was fine and there was no obvious damage. Once I began to assemble the unit, I noticed a couple of annoying problems:

1. One of the battery terminal screws was missing. I replaced this with one of my own.
2. The bolts/nuts provided for attaching the handles are totally inadequate. no amount of fudging or tweaking allowed the handles to be attached with the provided hardware. I replaced with my own.
3. The wheels don't fit that well and do not appear to be very study. When installed and righted, they bow outward at the base and the metal collar is clearly out of round.
4. The manual was essentially written for a somewhat different model generator.
5. Discoloration, dirt, and other undesirable elements were evident in the finish of some components.

Overall impression of build quality was "poor".

I decided to start the unit up using a BBQ grill propane tank. I followed the instructions, but noted immediately that the electric start did not work. Indeed, the starter never budged AT ALL. The manual claims that the battery may come partially discharged and that running the unit for "a few minutes" will charge the battery sufficiently to allow the electric start to work. IT DOES NOT. in fact, running the unit for 1 FULL HOUR did not rectify the problem. Either there is a wiring problem, the battery is bad, or the starter is bad.

While running, the engine will randomly sputter. Again the manual claims this should resolve in a "few minutes". IT DOES NOT. Putting the unit under load (an electric leaf blower) DID however rectify the engine sputter, until the appliance is shutoff, at which point, the sputter resumes.

I don't understand some neg reviews, as my XP4400EH had NONE of these issues. I guess no Company has perfect Quality Control, maybe I just got lucky, I don't know. My unit arrived well packaged and with the exact manual included. No damage, no missing parts, TWO sets of keys (4 total) and had no trouble starting and running. Wheels came with 4 large washers, that when slipped on the machined axles, (first, the washer, then the wheel, then the other washer, then the cotter pin) are more than adequate. I mention this, as this data is missing from the instructions. The tires feel and work like aired tires, but are "never flat" type. The handles work perfectly once adjusted, common sense. Cap screws for axle and wheel kit are of very good quality, as is every part of this Generator, and NO I don't work for DuroMax. Even the tools needed are included, except for another wrench to hold the bolt from turning as you tighten it. The engine is a "Honda Clone", copy of the Honda GX200 engine, which runs and sounds amazing. It really is so quiet that my Wife remarked, "You really don't have to raise your voice to have a conversation, standing right next to it. !" ...just like they said in the DuroMax commercial on YouTube ! We are both delighted with every detail of this Generator. I feel a little guilty that the DuroMax has more features ( 8.3 Amp 12Volt DC regulated output for charging car batteries etc, larger Fuel Tank, Propane AND Gasoline, AC Panel Meter, Wheel Kit and Folding Handles included, Electric Start with Battery included) but costs 1/2 as much as the Honda. ($700 vs $ 1590). Once my local Garden Equipment Repair center told me they would repair it if needed, I ordered it thru Amazon.Read more ›

I have been living off the grid this summer in central Washington, and we have been enduring a heat wave with temps climbing in the mid-90s and above. This little generator has power my RV through all of that and more, I have no run almost 50 gallons of propane and not one issue with this generator, it always starts, and runs sometimes at maximum output for hours. I do frequent oil changes, about one a week. The power is clean and my computers, TV and monitors all run fine. The only thing I do not like is the oil fill but I have learned to live with it. I am a big guy and old and having to get that low to check the oil is a pain not just because it is low but because it is tucked under the batter and motor. Still I love this and it has save me and my wife from a very long and hot summer. As for quiet I live on about an acre of land and I can barely hear it operate on the edges of my property, you can hold a conversation next to it but it is not as quiet as a Honda but then again a little noise is well worth not pay all that cash.

The generator was ordered on a Friday and received on a Tuesday with prime shipping ( it wasn't shipped a long distance - from New Jersey to NY by UPS) . The wheel kit was fairly easy to install (a wrench is provided). The instruction booklet is good and first time setup took about an hour and was simple. The generator came with a 30 amp twist lock plug, a three prong plug and a grounding rod. Battery hookup was simple and self explanatory. Oil fill requires a long neck funnel (one quart of 30 weight oil is required). After initial setup, I hooked up a 20lb propane tank and turned the key. It started right up and wasn't too loud (less noisy than a lawn mower). One thing to remember is to turn a valve that directs fuel flow from either gas or propane. Also remember to remove the packing bolts. Looks to be a high quality generator and is recommended.

Udate: 7/23/14 - I haven't had to use the generator for an emergency yet but the battery went bad and won't hold a charge. The good news is that the generator starts right up with the pull cord (using propane). The bad battery may be my fault because I might not have kept it fully charged all the time, don't know. I don't think a new battery is worth the investment considering the pull cord works well to start it up.
