5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best in it's class
I've tried a lot of LED emergency lights. This is one is my favorite. It's very, very bright, has a nice form factor, and plugs into the top wall socket without blocking the lower socket. I have these distributed around the house and use them as flashlights where I never have to worry about batteries. The flat bottom makes them easy to place when I'm working, and I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not that great.
The product description says, "As soon as the power cuts out this emergency light will automatically power on its 24 powerful LEDs ...and stay on continuously for as long as 8-hours. ...Charging time: 8-12 hours."
How about 2 hours!?! I had it plugged in for 24 hours (it has a little light which is red when charging and green when all charged up) when I decided to...

I've tried a lot of LED emergency lights. This is one is my favorite. It's very, very bright, has a nice form factor, and plugs into the top wall socket without blocking the lower socket. I have these distributed around the house and use them as flashlights where I never have to worry about batteries. The flat bottom makes them easy to place when I'm working, and I can always find them when I need them since they are sitting right in the wall socket.

It would be ideal if these lights had a nightlight mode with a light sensor (it would have to also have a much lower brightness setting). However, I've never found such a light that compared to this in quality as a flashlight/emergency light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ordering another set, April 13, 2010

I've tried various power failure lights in the past and I've almost always been disappointed. I purchased these Durofix lights a few weeks ago and my initial impression was positive enough that I'm now buying another set.

The good:
1) The light is very bright.
2) Thin - doesn't stick out from the wall very much (like some flashlight-like lights).
3) Takes up only one plug.

The bad:
1) The packaging is a total waste. Large box for two small lights.

TBD:
1) Not sure how long they actually run on battery power.
2) Will they stop working after a year or two (a problem I've had with many brands)?

Sept 2010 Update: We recently had a power outage. After more than hour, these lights had yet to dim one bit. Very pleased with these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Power Failure Light, May 10, 2010
This review is from: Durofix RL435 Li-Ion 3.6V Plug-in Power Outage LED Light, 2-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
We currently have Energizer power failure lights (LED) which are not very bright and also recently junked 3 sylvania power failure/nightlights that failed to hold a charge when unplugged from the wall outlet. After reading the reviews for this product I decided to purchase them after finding them on sale at our local big-box wharehouse store.

These units are constructed very well, the flipable plug is very sturdy/tight and the unit is very thin. Aside from build quality, I was very impressed with the design that uses only (1) outlet either upper or lower. Our previous sylvania units blocked both outlets rendering them useless and we would have to physically remove the unit to access the outlets for vacuuming etc. These units only use one outlet and leave the other free which is such a great feature for those who don't have extra outlets handy.

The light output is what really impresses me...I would normally have to put more than one of the former power failure lights around the house to ensure a useful amount of emergency lighting but these units are extremely bright. I now have just one in our living room and it is bright enough to also throw light into our adjacent dining room. The other unit is upstairs in the master bedroom facing the bed so we'll most likely be awakened by the light shining at us in the event of a power failure which is fine.

For the price, these units are a great buy and although I'm not sure how long they will last, the brightness sure makes me feel secure knowing my family will never be left in the dark if the power ever fails. They also make for a handy flashlight if you needed one...great investment in your family's well being!

The product description says, "As soon as the power cuts out this emergency light will automatically power on its 24 powerful LEDs ...and stay on continuously for as long as 8-hours. ...Charging time: 8-12 hours."
How about 2 hours!?! I had it plugged in for 24 hours (it has a little light which is red when charging and green when all charged up) when I decided to take it up in the attic to do some electrical work last night. It stayed on for roughly two hours, then without warning (no dimming or anything) it just cut off and wouldn't come back on when I pressed the button. When I took it down, plugged it back in, the little light showed red (needed charging). An hour later when I went back to it (the light still red though) it turned on just fine (so it's not broken or anything).
So, let me make this the first non-5-star review of this product because it doesn't stay on anywhere near "as long as 8 hours" on its fully charged battery, and will give you no warning that its power is waning and will just shut off.

Although the design is slick, and the idea good ... out of the 3 pair I purchased (6 total units), only 2 worked. 60% percent of the shipment were duds. For this price, the product should be way better. I would definitely not recommend durofix.

I JUST purchased a Two pack of the Durofix LED lights for backup! Out of the Box, one doesn't work! Others state the same thing!Amazon won't take them back because they shipped from a Distributor in Alabama. SO, I HAVE TO PAY SHIPPING COST to send the dead one back! I suggest you'all buy some other brand. Look at the reviews. Many, state they didn't work or don't last as long (Hours) when they do.They aren't cheap,so I'm upset and will spread the word,DON'T BUY THEM,buy other brands!

After charging both units for over 12 hours neither of them turned on. I tried different ways of pressing the little rubber-covered switches, but to no avail. I'm sending them back for a refund. Also, the packaging is very wasteful. The box is about 4 times bigger than the pair of lights.

Do not purchase this product. I read the reviews and the majority of the reviews were very positive. I live in South Florida and thought these lights would be great for hurricane season. I purchased two packages, four lights for $82.00 which is pricy but after reading the reviews I figured what the heck. Out of the four lights only one works. Save yourself the aggravation and DO NOT PURCHASE. Amazon should stop selling this product.

This device is bright ! Output equivalent of a 60 watt bulb. Lithium-Ion battery.
High/Low/Off setting, and turns on when power goes out, no fumbling around.
Rated at 8hrs low, 4hrs high. Even low setting is bright !
Was going to purchase another set, paid $28 a month ago with free s/h, but cant find for that price now.

A couple of months ago, in the middle of the night, we had a storm and a power outage. I looked at my neighbors house across the street (about 400 feet away) and saw bright lights in his kitchen. The next day he showed me his Durofix emergency lights. I purchased a pair that day. A great product.
