This review is from: Dushau (Dushau Trilogy) (Paperback)
Krinata, a loyal servant of the empire, is a debriefing officer for the emperor Zinzik, (A position similar to researcher, as far as I can surmise). When the emperor, an evil man, plots to rid the world of the near immortal Dushau who have helped to found their civilization, Krinata becomes involved inadvertently. Soon it becomes a race against time to rescue the Dushau before its too late. This was truly a fascinating read! The Dushau are a fascinating race, of blue, humanoids who are near-immortal. They possess a telepathic gift (although the Dushau really deny this), and they work in something called an 'oliat' which is a group of Dushau who work together, and have a sort of communal mind. The hero, Jindigar, is a Dushau prince and a rebel. His telepathic gifts make him a really sensitive yet pragmatic type which I found appealing. Krinata is a smart capable non-whiny heroine who makes mistakes but knows how to get things done! Minor characters such as Arlai, the ships AI, and Storm, the Ensyvian were also well done. (I would've loved to have a description of the Ensyvian's, I could never quite figure out what they were supposed to look like)! Lichtenberg writes Science Fiction that you can really sink your teeth into. This is an older book, but better than most modern fiction. I recommend this book for fans of character driven drama, or those who like telepathic man characters! Excellent.

Thoroughly enjoyed it!,
This review is from: Dushau (The Dushau Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)
The author manages to draw the reader into a totally alien world. I found myself fascinated by these incredible aliens, some with blue skin, others with carapaces, others of human appearance. The action and intrigue kept me reading. The romantic thread is tenuous, but the mystery and the fully developed alien world are so believable, it kept me enthralled. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.

For all lovers of the Sime/Gen series, this is another wonderful world you will totally love. Jacqueline Lichtenberg was way ahead of her time with this series, which focuses on characters of different races, and how the re-act to environmental issues when environment, politics, and personal ambition meet head on. Highly recommended.

The Dushau live practically forever. The Allegiancy picks them as it's scapegoat when civilization begins to crumble. Human Krinata is caught between her admiration and love of the Dushau and her loyalty to her Emperor. Dushau starts off strong, with lots of interesting aliens and tense situations. Jacqueline says in her bio that she's a big fan of Andre Norton and her writing shows it. The book is reminiscent of Norton's works while still being very original. However, the story and characters bogged down about halfway through. The action slows to a standstill while the characters struggle with philosophical issues. I really wanted to love this book, but it just didn't deliver what the beginning promised. The action and the story pick back up for a wild ride at the end. It's a solid read, an original science fiction adventure story with plenty of aliens and action.
