Dust for Life- For life,
By music fan from Phoenix (Phoenix, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dust for Life (Audio CD)
When I heard Step into the Light on KUPD, Phoenix, I had to hear the whole album. At first I was hesitant at buying it because I don't usually buy albums for one song, but this purchase was well worth it. Dust for life reminds a lot of early Alice and Chains, so if you are a fan of Alice and Chains then I would suggest you buy it you will not be dissapointed. The blend of grungy, crunchy guitars with obnocious vocals is anough to make your ears bleed. So rock on and never roll over baby! Dust for Life is the real deal.

Dust For Life's first CD is a great find to the true music lover. Some of the great songs off the Cd are : Step into the Light, Seed, and Bitten. If you are interested in hearing more from them go to their website for the chance to download the latest album "Degrees Of Black" and they have some new demos of some unreleased songs. Awesome band, you won't be disappointed...

Alice in Chains Part 2?,

Dust For Life sound a lot like Alice In Chains. That's both the good and bad news about their debut album. While their sound comes close to pillaging Alice In Chains, they have definitely picked a good band to emulate, and they emulate them well. Fans who enjoyed Alice's chrunching riffs, soaring solos, and foreboding aura will certainly find a lot to enjoy on Dust For Life's album. The musicianship is solid throughout, with catchy riffing, strong solos, and hard, nimble drumming. "Poison," "Dragonfly," and "Step into the Light" are among the standouts, featuring grinding guitars and big choruses that remain embedded in my head for hours. Dust For Life are clearly very talented, standing a notch above such second-rate grunge imitators as Creed, Nickelback, and Tantric. Hopefully in the future they will be able to expand their sound and make their music more their own. I'll certainly be listening.

Wow!! I saw a comercial with DUST FOR LIFE playing there title track (Step Into The Light). I had to find this cd as soon as I could. Since I bought the cd I have listened to it all the way through many times. They have an ALICE IN CHAINS esque sound to them. The whole album is good and these days that's hard to find a whole cd like that. So if your looking for a good cd buy this one you will be glad you did.

New Meets Old,
By Phil B (Concord NC USA) - See all my reviews

Dust For Life combines a sound similar to Guns N Roses meets Alice In Chains to come up with a great cd. A friend turned me on to them and I can honestly say 80% of the tracks are excellent. While the vocals are unmistakenly Alice In Chains like, the music is widely varied with alot of guitar power and effects. This cd is a major find that should be getting far more attention than it is.

A must have!,

These guys are great! I'm very picky about that music I listen to and I have to say, I'm truly amazed that I enjoy it. "Where the Freaks go" reminds me a little of Big Sugar...otherwise, they have a mix of alot of different sounds, making them unique. Their website has their video for "Step into the Light" and it's great! These guys are gonna go far!

Impressive Debut,

I took a risk on this cd without listening to it first and glad I took the chance. These guys are on tour with 3 Doors Down and Nickelback. I thought they would be similar in music style and they are to a certain extent. The thing that separates them from 3 Doors Down and Nickelback is the crunchy guitars and well written lyrics. I would categorize them in the U.P.O., Full Devil Jacket gang before 3 Doors Down and Nickelback.Highlights are "Seed", "Poison", "Where The Freaks Go".

Excellent grunge, oldschool style!,

It's good to hear that in this day in age of Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and other boring rap metal clones, there is a band doing music like we heard in the good old days, back when Nirvana and Alice in Chains were king. And, this album delivers. The debut from Dust for Life is chock full of heavy, crunchy riffs, acoustic passages, and plentiful melody. And, unlike many bands in the mainstream these days, they can actually play their instruments, and quite well, too. This is kind of what I was hoping the new Godsmack album would sound like. It's got way more variety, and a better sense of melody. The influence of Alice in Chains is audible in every note, but not to the point of sounding derivative or rehashed. The heavy to melodic transitions in "Step into the Light" are expertly done, that bass in "Seed" is awesome, and the soloing in "Shadow Pool" is just incredible. But, the track that really takes you by surprise is "The End", the closing track, which is completely acoustic. It sounds very much like Days of the New, but better I think. Anyway, this is a great album for anyone who loves heavy, grunge-like music. Recommended to fans of Creed, Godsmack, and Alice in Chains. I also recommend Tantric and Full Devil Jacket, for a similar sound.

When I found out about Dust For Life, it was on some site like mp3.com or the like. I was amazed by their sound and song-craft. Then they released this solid self-titled album that blew me away. If there was anything I could relate to it was the lyrical messages and imagery that this bands portrays very well. I was saddened when they disbanded in 2001 due to label issues with Wind-Up. They have gotten back together and launched their new site www.dustforlifemusic.com where you can order their new 8-track release. It builds on the foundation they have formed here and pushes them further into slef-expression. Keep rockin, it's the only way.

Post Grunge Era Rock,
By The Dude (Houston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dust for Life (Audio CD)
I bought this album after seeing this band play at Buzzfest. They played on a tiny stage with no lighting effects or fancy pyro. It was all them. They ripped the stage to shreds. I got to meet all the guys in the band and i got the cd signed. They even sold it to me for 8 bucks cuz i stayed to watch them. The album has a lot of depth to it and it has everything you would want from a post grunge era rock band. Moody acoustic songs close out the album and Powerful 3 note riffs easily hit you like a brick. If you like Alice in Chains or Nickelback or Tantric or Days of the New, THEN BUY THIS CD. Its the best thing to come out of Memphis since elvis. Peace out and listen to DFL.The Dude |
