5.0 out of 5 stars Really, an astonishingly good CD, March 31, 2001
This review is from: Red Dust & Spanish Lace (Audio CD)
While I am Ms. Piano at home, my husband is Mr. Guitar. He was quite shocked to find this CD in my collection. He rates Acoustic Alchemy very highly. I bought it because I loved it at first hearing.

I heard the Mr. Chow cut and bought the CD immediately. This piece has a lilting rhythm and an interesting mix of Oriental tunes and percussion. Quite unique and very listenable (you should listen to the sample here.)

The Red Dust and Spanish Lace is Tex-Mex meets Flamenco. Very nice. Close your eyes and imagine a fiesta in some border town.

The Girl with the Red Carnation may be the prettiest piece on the CD.

All in all, varied and colorful music, relaxed yet interesting. This must be Acoustic Alchemy's best. Every piece is a winner, which is not the case with many CD's, where there is one hit only and filler for the rest. If you love guitar, you are sure to love this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars In my opinion, their best cd. A festival for your ears!, July 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Red Dust & Spanish Lace (Audio CD)
Being a guitar player myself, I am both envious and awed by the guitar work on this recording. From the whimsical "Mr. Chow" to the end title cut, I find it a pure joy to listen to, and always manage to hear something new every time I play it. I have many of their cds, and love them all, but this is the stand-out. My absolute favorite with its outstanding rhythmn backbone is "One For The Road", which to me embodies that "good-time" feeling of blowing down the highway with the top down, radio blasting, sun shining, and brother, life is good! Even if you're not an officionado of acoustic guitar or jazz, this "festival for your ears" will sure to please. There's a cut for everyone's tastes. This particular cd rates high on my "all-time favorites" list (can you tell?)For the best in acoustic excellence, this is it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Music & Good Performance & Good Engineering, April 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Red Dust & Spanish Lace (Audio CD)
Acoustic Alchemy's 15 year old recording titled Red Dust & Spanish Lace contains excellent compositions that are well performed and nicely engineered. You can play it in the background or listen to it with your full attention. Each track contains nice melodies and harmonies that can be described as a mellow blend of traditional spanish guitar (it's a little mellow for flamenco), jazz and pop. Relax to it, cook to it, dance to it or even listen to it. Add it to your collection

An old album, yes! But this music is timeless. The loss of Nick Web was a blow to this planet and all of it's music listening inhabitants.

We are missing him and this album will help you appreciate and understand why!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classics don't get any better than this, July 3, 2004

I just haven't been able to stop buying up Acoustic Alchemy albums since I first heard "AART" in 2003. What attracted me to this album is the title track, which the group played at a concert in Reading, PA (2004). It was reason enough to buy the CD; but that's not to say that the other songs are a waste - listeners will be charmed and seduced by each track, especially "The Stone Circle", "One For The Road" and "Red Dust & Spanish Lace" which are the crowning moments to an obviously perfect album.

This is a must-have for an Acoustic Alchemy fan!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An eclectic mix of New Age, Flamenco and Jazz!!, November 27, 2002

First heard the group's album on the legendary smooth jazz station, KKSF in San Francisco back in 1987. I was so impressed with the duo's track "Mr. Chow" that I purchased a cassette copy and was immediately hooked. Since then, it has been one of my favorite albums of all time. I love every track on this CD including "Rideout" and "Girl with the red carnation". A great piece of work!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Dust and Spanish Lace by Acoustic Alchemy, April 19, 2010

I first heard this recording back in 1987 when it was first released. My wife and I were on vacation in Gatlinburg and we were looking through a plant shop and this incredible, beautiful, relaxing yet invigorating music was being played in the store. We were both very impressed and asked the shop owner who the artist was playing the music and they told us, Acoustic Alchemy, and that they actually sold it in the store, so we bought the cassette tape of it and listened to the tape all the way back to Ohio. We fell in love with the music and have since bought everything we can find by them. This recording is still, and always will be, one of those must have's, if I am stranded on a desert island and could choose any music, "Red Dust and Spanish Lace" by Acoustic Alchemy would be there lifting my spirits. Listen to it and you'll know why.

Acoustic Alchemy rarely "misses", and although this is one of their earlier efforts, the entire album is excellent (as usual).

5.0 out of 5 stars A true jazz classic for the ages, November 7, 2008
This review is from: Red Dust & Spanish Lace (Audio CD)
From the first licks of 'Mr. Chow' to the final (namesake) track, there are few sets that stand up to this, one of the all-time classics of acoustic jazz. This sound lifts one into the stratosphere of 'the joy of music' like no other save perhaps John Klemmer's sax extravaganza 'Touch'. To boot, these sounds are ANCIENT history, yet remain timeless...
