5.0 out of 5 stars But Marty...I always wear a suit to the office., December 8, 2003

I cannot think of another band that is more loved by the people who have seen and heard them play. If you haven't, you owe it to yourself. This album and their self-titled masterpiece make up what I still consider the greatest punk rock of all time. Goodnight Sellout and Narcolepsy are icing on the cake. All of their songs are easy to relate to and written honestly, which I think is what makes them the greatest band to walk this earth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plow makes me moist, February 15, 2000

This review is from: Dustbin of History (Audio CD)
What else is there to say, I pretty much grew up on these guys. And hey if you're lookin for Delaware punk rock look for the up and coming Alison Ranger(featuring none other than me on drums). But anyway, back to Plow, this cd although i haven't heard it, i've heard all the songs before, and who would want to miss out on that fine track "dance." that's old school plow right there, once again, plow makes me moist

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Pennsylvania Band Ever, January 20, 2007
This review is from: Dustbin of History (Audio CD)
Here that Poison? That's right. Plow United is better than you. They didn't need to dress like girls or write disposable pop/metal songs to dethrone you. They did just the opposite. They picked three chords and played them faster than you could shake a stick at.

Wait. What does that even mean?

It means this. Plow United crammed their rage and anger into two minute long songs (Let's be honest. Most songs were way shorter.) and could still make you dance. It's almost like they sucked out your anger and put it into their songs just so you could be happy for a few minutes. But don't think they were all doom and gloom. Far from it. Along with the blistering punk there was always a damn good melody, not to mention insanely great lyrics.

You will never find a better band. Ever. And this album has their long, long, long lost single "Dance (Better Than I've Ever Seen)" along with it's even better b-side "Timmy Is An Arsonist" which makes this album worth way more than you're paying. Plus, you get a bunch of other great singles and b-sides and compilation tracks. It's quite simply brilliant.

There truly is "No parole for rock-n-roll."

4.0 out of 5 stars This band transcends its genre, February 22, 2006
This review is from: Dustbin of History (Audio CD)
As I write this, no other review mentions the sound or the songs. They are all about how cool the band was. Well, I never saw them, and I was never in the one guy's high school class. But I can tell you about the recorded music.

I began listening to Plow in 1995, the year their first album came out, and I've picked up all their LPs since then.

The Dustbin of History is a compilation of demos, singles, b-sides, and other tracks that weren't on albums. The original version of "Lighters" is on Goodnight Sellout - the version here is rerecorded.

As you might imagine, such a wide net yields a catch of diverse quality, both sonically and song-wise. From the booklet: "Some of these songs were recorded by us on a borrowed four track in Sean's basement. Some of them were recorded by Arik Victor on an eight track reel to reel in his basement. And the rest of them were recorded by Arik and Mike Bardzik on a 16 track reel to reel. See if you can guess which is which."

For a proper introduction to the band, I recommend their first, self-titled album. It's available tacked onto the end of the rereleased Goodnight Sellout album. After you hear that, if you really like it (and you should) get this one; some of these tracks take it to the next level, and others show you where the band came from musically.

Plow United is punk, and pop, but much rougher around the edges than Lookout-style pop-punk, excluding Operation Ivy. They play fast, the songs are catchy and some are sublime.

"Could You?" is one of my all-time favorite songs. In the liner notes, the band calls it "very weird," and at 2:38 it's the longest track on the disc except for the epic "Beat Up Radio." The lyrics are intensely introspective and movingly evoke a teenage transition into adulthood. Plus, it works very well as a love song. It was originally released as Plow's part of a split single with Weston.

The intro to "Sadi" is catchy and commercial-sounding. In fact, it's a shame Blink-182 made it to the masses and Plow missed, because this song proves that Plow has more style AND content.

"Beat Up Radio" is a Social Distortion-esque mammoth that could be trimmed and shaped into something great. It's a good idea that the band seems to never have followed up.

"Dance" was apparently a crowd favorite at shows - "All the boys look up your skirt/The teachers look right down your shirt" - It's very catchy and, for a punk song, danceable.

"Break My Heart" is a "Sadi" b-side that will stick to the inside of your brain; maybe because the one lyric is repeated from start to finish.

"Love Comes in Spurts" is a decent update of the Voidoids classic.

Other highlights include: "Stupid Jock Rock," "Believe Your Eyes," "Timmy Is an Arsonist," and "Lighters."

Plow is the best band to ever grace the planet with their fleeting presence. Not to mention some of the nicest guys and most genuine people ever. I had the extreme pleasure of going to about 99% of all their shows between 1995 and their last show in 1997, and I'm so grateful that I got to see them so many times. (thanks, you guys, you 3 really are the best ever! i cherrish those times) Every show they did, they put their whole heart into and that was just something that you could feel inside your skin when you were standing there in front of them, screaming along to their incredibly insightful, cut-to-the-chase, beautiful lyrics. Brian, Joel, and Sean made a lasting impression on about 99% of the people who saw them, interacted with them, as these reviews can attest. I really feel sorry for all the people who may have discovered Plow's music after they decided to pursue other things and never got to see their energy and heart in person. I love you guys.
