5.0 out of 5 stars What a treat !, August 10, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Dustbuster's Demo (Audio CD)
I have had "see what I see" for a long time, and never really got into it. I dont know why, but one of the reviewers for that album hit the nail on the head when he said it is not "in your face". Perhaps I was just going through a long (admittedly very long !) period where I liked something to hit me in the face, rip it off, and throw it out the window before it really got my attention.

So it was with some reluctance that I ordered DD, after some glowing reviews on other CD sites. Thank goodness I did. This is a hidden masterpiece. Not all of it is face ripping, by any means, but there are some KILLER tracks on this album.

From the reviews, the album title, and the track number, I was expecting something akin to Mike Keneally's Nonkertompf, where the tracks we perhaps only partly formed and incomplete ( and not very enjoyable because of it ). I was wrong. Each track may have been recorded as a "demo", but here they fall together as complete works, and the album works perfectly and coherently.

I don't know about you, but if I buy an album with one OUTSTANDING track on it, I am actually happy ... $15 for a piece of music that will stay with you all your life ... worth every penny. On this CD you have about 5. Hoedown is simply brilliant, as is Hello, and a few others.

Whilst I am not 100% in love with Dave Beegles guitar tone on some of the tracks, there is no doubting that his ability to play, his compositional skills and eclecticism SHOULD rank him as one of the "greats". Thank goodness that some players are less interested in making damn sure that everyone DOES rank them amongst the greats, and more interested in making great music.

This one will stay in my car, and Hoedown will be the bain of my neighbourhood.
