Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Developed in Pennsylvania Dutch country, Dutch Blitz is a card game that's exciting to play and easy to learn. Perfect for family game nights, or to play with a group of good friends, you'll enjoy spirited competition as you try to get rid of your 10-card Blitz pile before anybody else. Not as easy as it sounds, though, because players don't take turns. You have to be the fastest to place your cards in sequence and in the same respective colors on the center Dutch piles while using as many cards from your Blitz Pile as possible. When your Blitz Pile has been exhausted, you've won. The game includes four decks of 4 colorful playing cards and easy-to-follow instructions. Two to four players can play this fast-moving game. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vonderful Goot Game!!! July 26, 2007
By Colleen
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
What a blast! Four people sit around the table. Each person has their own design of cards (pump, plow, pail, or carriage). You set up your cards in front of you colored/numbered side up in three Post piles and one Blitz pile and you work off your Blitz pile taking three cards at a time and laying the trio on the "Wood" pile. If you can place the top card somewhere, either on your post piles or to start or play on a "Dutch" pile in the center of the table, then you can also try to place the next face up card. If you can't place that card anywhere then you draw three more Blitz cards and turn them over on the Wood pile again and keep doing this trying to get rid of those Blitz cards. Once a person's Blitz pile is gone the game is over for everyone. You can depleat your Blitz pile by playing them onto your Post piles and/or putting them out in the center of the table for everyone to play on (Dutch piles). The cards laid in the middle of the table must start with an ace and are played on by all the players each laying down the next number in sequence and matching the color. Your own personal Post piles work differently.

Sometimes the game gets stuck where there are no cards in the center for anyone to play on, then someone will finally get an ace to lay out in the center and the game goes wild. It gets to be a hairied, frenzied, free-for-all where you either find yourself on a roll pitching your whole pile out to the various card piles in the center of the table, or you watch in stunned screams as someone else depleats all their cards so fast that you're just paralyzed and powerless to stop them. Once someone goes out all the cards that you have left in your Blitz pile get tallied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Variations to the game August 24, 2006
While the game is designed to be played with 4 people, you CAN play with more. I've been involved in games with 20+!

One easy way is to play partners. Two people on a team - one plays the cards laid out, the other the 'dealing' hand.

Another way is with multiple decks. Just mark all the cards in the extra deck with a notation of some type so you can distinguish between the marked & unmarked sets. This way you can easily have two, three, or more decks going on at the same time in one giant game.

Combine the multiple decks with teams, sit around a big table, and you've got a crazy game with dozens of people.

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars This game is always fun November 29, 2005
By mocame
I have played Dutch Blitz since I was a little girl. It is fun and fast-paced.

Only up to 4 people can play at one time. Each person picks a set of cards. You have one main pile of cards and 3 individual cards lined up beside it. The rest of the cards you have in your hand. The object of the game is to get rid of all of your cards first by placing them out on the table in order from 1 to 10, matching the right color. Little kids and adults love this game. It is harder for little children to play with adults because they aren't as fast. I usually try to slow down a bit. When I've played with friends and family, there are usually cards flying and hands being smacked as someone tries to put their card down first.

I don't know if this game is hard to find or not. I live in the Pennsylvania Dutch area and I can find it here but I don't know about other areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars great family fun! January 10, 2009
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I started playing this game when I was a youth at church functions. I have continued playing with my children, ages 7, 9 and 12. My kids love it. It is a fast-paced game, so the younger ones might need to play with a partner. I have introduced dutch blitz to many friends over the years and most have enjoyed it thoroughly. If you are looking for a game that you can play with adults and children together this is a great game. It is portable too! It can bring out the competitive side in people, however. I personally like that aspect of it! I highly recommend this game--both for yourself and as a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and multi-generational June 26, 2009

I first played Dutch Blitz at a women's retreat years ago. As a result, I bought the game to play with my kids, ages 7 through high school. It is a fast game that requires a little strategy and a little speed, but can be as intense (or not) as you want it to be. It's fun and comfortable to play for adults and kids. I took it on a vacation to the beach one year, and when my daughter got too sunburned to go outside one day, we played it all day and never tired of it. Now that's a fun game. (And I'm not what you'd call a "game person."

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this April 20, 2009
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Dutch blitz and Rook are my family's favorite card games. Though the "youngest" in our family is now 32, we still play Dutch blitz with as much gusto as we did 20 years ago. Our biggest problem is that we like the game so much, we wear out the cards and have to buy new decks... It has even been a hit at graduate student parties!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Game for Families January 19, 2007
By Dakota
Our family really enjoys this game. We began playing this game with our young children and now they are older they still request to play this game with us. This game is fun to play because you don't have to be smart just quick. My college age daughter has taken this game to school with her to play with her friends. Its a wonderful game to play and have family time together

5.0 out of 5 stars As fun as I remembered
The game is fun and the rules are simple enough. I love the old-fashioned design. The box should have four separate sections, so that each player's cards wouldn't get mixed up.
