5.0 out of 5 stars The Black Al Capone!!, August 23, 2006
This review is from: Dutch: The First of a Trilogy (Dutch Trilogy) (Paperback)
Dutch was born Bernard James. Dark, sexy,cold-hearted and gangsta, Dutch was nothing to be f***** with. He was always smart; that's why he deemed school unnecessaary. Dutch had a plan-He wanted to be the King of New York. He started his plan by sweeping floors for an Italian man who had connections to the mob. One day a stick-up kid tried to rob the man and Dutch killed him. This was his first body but definitely not the last. This proved to his employer that he was loyal and they gave him a connect to a chop shop. So, at the age of 14, Dutch had money rolling in like a grown man and a team of stickup kids who only stole BMWS and other luxury cars.

But an error of judgement came one day when the biggest car theft they could have attempted went wrong and Dutch had to go to jail. Little did the police know, they did Dutch a favor. After doing his two year bid, Dutch was smarter, bigger, and badder than ever. Hsi mom told him never to let him lock him up like dog ever again without putting up a fight. From that day forward, Dutch vowed to hold court in the streets before he went to jail again.

He resumed his plan on being the King of New York. Ojiwa Kazami ,a nigerian, was the King now. His team, used to the guerilla warfare in Africa, had no problems taking the urban jungles over. He was untouchable. The mob even put two hits out on him and was unsucessful at killing him. This hyped up his legendary status even more. That it, until Dutch came along. See every man had a weakness and Kazami's baby's mother happened to be his. She was the key element in the setup to kill Kazami.

After killing Kazami, Dutch wore his chain( a plate-sized gold dragon with diamonds and rubies for eyes)as a staus symbol meaning, "I'm that n**** now! F*** wit me! Kazami's team and every one loyal to his regime went down in one of the biggest killing sprees New York had ever seen. It was called, "Month of Murder" in the papers.

This book reads like a mobster gangsta movie!! It will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. This book opens up with Dutch's trial. In the end, Dutch holds the streets in court after they try to stick him with a life sentence. Whew!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars True Crimes, January 11, 2005

This review is from: Dutch: The First of a Trilogy (Dutch Trilogy) (Paperback)
DUTCH: THE FIRST OF A TRILOGY is a bone-chilling tale of murder, power and retribution, which vividly highlights the crime riddled existence of notorious Newark gangster, Bernard James, AKA Dutch.

Dutch's life of crime begins at about the age of 14, when he cunningly capitalizes on a botched robbery attempt against a business owner with close ties to the mob. Dutch cold-heartedly tricks and kills the would be perpetrator, to the shocked relief of the mobster and then calmly disposes of the body. Appreciative, he soon introduces Dutch to "Fat Tony", a reputed mob boss, who is so impressed by Dutch's heinous act that he takes him under his protection and rewards him with a coveted connection to a "chop shop," which only dealt in luxury cars. Thus began Dutch's criminal legacy, which grows to gigantic proportions and culminates in his being put on trial for a murderous rampage labeled "the month of murder." The District Attorney appears to have an airtight case, which does not bode well for Dutch. But an ever resourceful Dutch has no plans to live his life in prison and quickly orchestrates a plan to avenge those who would dare to attempt to usurp his meteoric rise to the top.

DUTCH: THE FIRST OF A TRILOGY is a fast moving story with ruthless dialogue and a plot that goes into detail after gory detail of Dutch's bizarre life of crime. This thoroughly absorbing and harrowing tale reads like a work of fiction and is one that will keep any lover of this genre captivated. The story ends with an unexpected spine-tingling twist that is almost unparalleled in its shock-value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hustlin', April 12, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dutch: The First of a Trilogy (Dutch Trilogy) (Paperback)
Book Review

Dutch by Teri Wood; Teri Woods Publishing:New York, NY, 2003 ISBN# 0-96722494-2

Have you ever thought about hustling? Dutch by Teri Woods is fictional book. This is the first book of a trilogy. All three of his books are about hustlers. The theme of Dutch is that although you're making all that money something will happen: it can be getting caught by the cops or getting shot.
All Dutch wanted was money, power and respect. Dutch started out just stealing cars. He had a connection from Fat Tony with a chop shop. He went to jail for about three years. When he got back everything was different. Kazami and his crew had taken over the heroin trade and Dutch wanted to be the one running the heroine trade. He showed everyone that he doesn't play when he murdered Kazami. He did everything he murdered, stole cars, and hustled he even had some night spots where rappers and ballers came through.
The book is gripping. The chapter where he invaded Kazami will have you guessing what he will do next. You will be wondering whether or not he will kill the baby along with the girl and everyone else in the house. I like the way the author wrote the book from at least 5 different points of views. For example, when the cop came in and testified and the guy who blew himself up's wife came. Even one of his friends testified against him which I thought was messed up. The interesting part is that the book all takes place in court and the things that happen are when the people take the stand.
Dutch reminds me of Quadir because they both hustled and got rich. Also, they both could've had any girl they wanted but they really only wanted one. Also a lot of people owed them money and when they didn't deliver they would make them pay either with money or with their life. He and Tony Montana got rich off of the heroin trade.
I recommend this book to everyone who likes books about hustlers and murderers. This book is targeted to the younger people because its purpose is to show what it's like to hustle.
