Buy it! It's the greatest little pot rack around!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Old Dutch Half Round Pot Rack, Graphite (Kitchen)
Please read all of this.I was looking for a small pot rack. I have a gally kitchen, and space is limited. It's perfect. Compact, as others have stated. I have 2 All-Clad pots, 2 All-Clad frying pans, 2 Revere Ware copper pots, and 1 large 7lb Viking saute pan hanging. I have all associated lids neatly stored in the rack above. There's room for more. I have been an aviation tech for 35 years. This is an extremely well made kit, and will take about 45 minutes for a novice to assemble and install. I recommend putting tension on the support straps (the top mount bolt) when you mount it. The straps, although very substantial, tend to relax with added weight, and allow the shelf to droop slightly.

I bought this item to replace a round ceiling-mounted pot rack. I couldn't be more pleased with this wall rack. It is much more stable than my previous rack and it takes up less space. I'm confused by the reviewer's statement that the rack only holds 3-4 pans. I have around 2 dozen pots hanging on mine! I am using all the hooks included with this rack as well as some from my previous pot rack. I could actually hang a couple more, but I'm concerned that the wall may not be able to hold too much more weight. The only problem I had with this rack is assembly. I assembled it alone but I recommend having a helper as it's nearly impossible to hold all the slats in the correct curved position without assistance.

I bought this rack to accomodate some of the pots that were overcrowding my ceiling mounted gourmet rack. This rack is very nice... it looks cute in my small kitchen.. it's well constructed and sturdy. As another reviewer noted, mine also came with the back bar assembled upside down... so in order to complete the assembly required at home I needed to unscrew the thing completely and put it together again...no big deal... it just took me a few minutes. I also agree with the reviewer who said that you cannot hang twelve pots on this rack. It comes with twelve hooks but I see no way in which that amount of pots can fit in this one. It's just too small for that. At the moment I have only 5 items hanging from the rack, all of them shallow items such as a griddle, some skillets and the like.I think it can accomodate one or two more items... nothing more than that. In terms of sturdiness I really believe the rack can hold the 12 items it is intended for... in terms of space no more than 7. Also be careful when balancing the items on the grid since it's not secured to the rack in any way so if you place a heavy item on one side, it might pull the grid down to the floor. I'd recommend that you keep a heavy pan on the center of the grid to avoid this problem. In a few words, the Half Round Pot Rack is a good buy... just don't expect it to solve your cabinet space problems.

This review is from: Old Dutch Half Round Pot Rack, Chrome (Kitchen)
For the money a very nice product. I got the Chrome, for black pans. There is a reason they use chrome on cars, it is a durable plating. Mine came assembled backwards as others have. It was a bit tricky to fix that by myself (would be easier with two people). Also, they give absolutely no guidence on how to install this on your wall. This is not acceptable, however the good points about the item outweigh this nonsense. For people who are very new to being "handy", here is some advice. (1) Assemble the 6 screws by screwing the bolt into the screw rather than visa-versa (to start off). Make sure the back lower bar is not backwards (2) Once you have it assembled (easy if you don't have to reverse thier mistake) take the 3 screws they give you to put it into the wall and throw them away. They are cheap and soft metal, that is why people have a hard time with them. Go to Home Depot some #10 screws, 1 1/2 inches should be fine. You can use 2 inches though. These will be used for the two lower screws (into wall studs). (3) If you don't have a stud finder, now is the time to get one. Everyone should have one of those. Use it to find your studs behind the drywall. Generally they are 16 inches between, that is pretty standard for building codes (but not universal). You probably have two choices, either screw the two lower screws into the studs and anchore the upper into the drywall, or screw the upper into a stud and anchore the lower two screws into the drywall. Lacking any instructions from Old Holland of China, you have to make the executive decision yourself. Structurally it may have made sense to put the upper screw into the stud. However as the separation between the lower two is exactly 16 inches, I assume that they intended for the lower screws to be put into studs and the upper screw anchored into the drywall. (4) Loosen two side screws on the rack some so you can get upper and lower sections flush. Tighten those two screws back when you are done, very tightly, I think that is very important strucurally. (5) Screw the lower two very tight into the studs (first drill a hole, I forget the drill width. Go small, you can always do it again with a wider bit. Look at the bit and use one noticably more narrow than the screw. That is why some people have trouble screwing the thing in, they were not aware of that technique. (6) Again at Home depot, buy the 90lb anchor made by E-Z Anchor. Those are nice, and will really give you the strength that you need for the anchor screw. You can get a package of 2 for $2. Just follow the instructions. Screw it in snug, but do not overtighten, you will be able to strip that if you try to tighten it too much. Just get it real snug. Screws are an art form, you have to learn from experience, and remember, you can always make it more tight, but after you have stripped it, you will have to repair it (not that big a deal but a pain). All in all I like the product. I got two of them. I have 9 Circulon pans hanging from the one, Calphalon on the other. Pans in the center are strung each on two hooks connected together; that lowers the pans a few inches and makes room. I put the lids on the top. I am happy with the purchase, as it was not very expensive and all in all is not too bad. I highly recommend it for those that want a very useful and decent looking pan rack to hand on a wall, and who don't want to spend a whole lot. It is pretty solidly constructed, provided you attach it to the wall in a fashion giving you the strength that the above directions will give you.

I have lots of cast iron, and it was always stacked in a cupboard - difficult to maneuver when you wanted the one on the bottom! My husband mounted this rack on the stud over my sink last year and it has since held 6 hefty cast iron skillets and pans, three revereware pans, and a huge nonstick skillet, plus the lids on top of the grid. Bravo!

Sturdy and well-finished,
By A Customer
This review is from: Old Dutch Half Round Pot Rack, Graphite (Kitchen)
This half-round wall rack is strong, well-made, and has a handsome, durable finish. It took about ten minutes to put the rack together. On one of these racks I am hanging 6 cast iron pans and griddles; and, there is space for 2-3 more (it is strong enough for many more). Before buying any pot/pan rack, draw an outline of the base and then envision the amount amount of space that will be taken by the pots and pans that you want to hang (note that pots take up more space)

This has to be about the least expensive pot rack. It does sort of look inexpensive and it is really small. I was able to fit only 12 items on it; yes...there are only 12 hooks, not 16 as stated above. Even if there were 16 hooks, I don't know where the extra 4 items would have gone. You get 6 hooks that are sharply angled and 6 that are like cup hooks (curved). I put a 13" heavy grill pan, a wok, 2x 7" omlet pans, 2 x 9" omlets, 2 x 11" omlets, 1 x 1QT revere saucepan, 1 x 2 QT revere suacepan, 1 x 2.1 QT Tfal saucepan and 1 x 3.1 QT Tfal saucepan. The Tfal handles were large and the angled hooks had to be reversed to make it work for me. The whole lot looks pretty crowded, but nice. As for installation, there are absolutely no instructions covering the attachment of the rack to the wall. I got (3) 1.5" screws which I had doubts about, so I used longer screws and anchors on the lower two holes. By the way, if your studs are like mine, they are 16" apart; the lower holes are not 16", but much further, so only the top screw went into a stud and lined up over my window nicely. I would suggest using longer screws since 1 1/2" really means 7/8" if going into a stud through 5/8" drywall. Like I said, it is really packed, so if you have more than I did, get a bigger one, not this one.UPDATE: I've had this rack for more than 3 years and still like having it despite the size. I keep a pair of BBQ tongs around just in case I manage to knock a hook off it's normal spot, which does happen a few times a year. I had to mount it pretty high up, so I don't use the shelf for anything since I can't reach it without a ladder. I don't regret getting this item and if the decor calls for a change in the color/finish, I am certain I would be able to find a good spray paint and make the change myself, easily. Bottom line, I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could, for the value and longevity of it. Original purchase date, May 2003.

Nice rack,

I have a small kitchen and wanted a way to conserve space. The reason for only 4 out of 5 stars is that it was a bit trickier to put it together and mount on the wall than expected. The metal pieces didn't align perfectly and it took some effort to get everything assembled in a satisfactory manner. When it came to mounting it on the wall, I was able to enlist the aid of a friend who is a carpenter. He knew exactly the best way to attach it to the wall, which is a good thing since the instructions didn't offer any advice on that subject. Other than these difficulties, the rack looks very nice and does exactly what I wanted it to do. I have quite a few pots and pans hanging from it, several of which are heavy stainless steel, and the rack has been holding up perfectly.

I have so many pots & pans that it was starting to get scary in our cabinets. I decided to purchase this particular pot rack for the price, and was pleasantly surprised. It is not only stylish, but sturdy, and very compact. It holds much more than it looks like it would, especially with the shelf that holds the "s" hooks. We have been able to fit all of our pots & pans on this, without worry that it will collapse from the weight. I have recommeded this pot rack to everyone that I know, and have gotten endless comments on how nice it looks! Definitely a bargain at this price!!
