5.0 out of 5 stars Tapply is great!, June 21, 2000
This review is from: The DUTCH BLUE ERROR (Hardcover)
"The Dutch Blue Error" is the 2nd novel in the Brady Coyne series. Ollie Weston owns a unique stamp that is named the Dutch Blue Error by stamp collectors. It is worth around 1 million dollars. When a Mr. Sullivan calls Weston to tell him that he also has a copy of the Dutch Blue Error, Weston knows he must have it to preserve the value of his stamp, so he calls Brady Coyne in to negotiate a deal to obtain the stamp. A deal is struck, but Mr. Sullivan doesn't show. It turns out that Mr. Sullivan is dead. Brady must try to find the stamp, and Sullivan's killer. In the meantime another murder victim is found. In this novel, Brady has a law student, Zerk, working as his secretary, and Zerk is a very likeable character. This is an excellent mystery with a strong plot and a touch of irony. A real winner!

3.0 out of 5 stars Stamp Collecting Is A Dangerous Business, May 5, 2008
My first thought when I picked this book up, and it may be yours too, was "what the heck is a 'Dutch Blue Error'." Well my friends, it is a stamp. But not just any stamp. It is one of the rarest, most valuable stamps in the world. Worth around $1 million dollars, it is in the possession of one of Brady's rich, elderly clients. It is the only one of it's kind, which makes it so valuable... or is it?

When Ollie (owner of said stamp) gets a mysterious call about another 'Dutch Blue Error' he asks Brady to meet with the man who claims to have it and to pay him $250,000 for it. Why? Because, if word gets out that there are 2 of these stamps, the value of the one in Ollie's possession goes down considerably.

Once again, as soon as Brady agrees to act more as a private investigator than a lawyer, people start dropping like flies. Someone else is looking for the duplicate stamp and will stop and nothing to get it. The only problem is, no one seems to know where it is now that the man who called Ollie to sell it is no longer available.

Can Brady find the stamp and track down a killer before he himself is another victim of The Dutch Blue Error?

This was another good read. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as some of the other Tapply books I've read recently, but I did like it and what I liked the most was how surprised I was to learn who was behind all of the killing.
