5.0 out of 5 stars Short Stories From Ole Louis Lamour, May 20, 2010

This review is from: Dutchman's Flat (Paperback)
Lamour serves up a great set of short stories. Actually, this book was my first return to reading after I gave up on the activity during my teenage years. The stories are great in that they do not require a whole great commitment to the individual who would like to read them, as well as those who do not want to wade through a story and its subplots. Each of the stores in this collection would serve as the basis for a novel that Lamour would offer up later. For example, you get the basis for the book Crossfire Trail, as well as a few others. This is a great benefit for those who are fans of the author, but work to make the book enjoyable for all involved. Get this one and enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short Stories are Good if you are in a Hurry, May 23, 2004

If you are in a hurry or you have extremely limited time for reading, the short story is for you. It is also good if you are a beginning reader. It is easy to finish a story quickly and therefore not lose the plot. Each story has a totally different plot and characters and it is easy to put it down a few days and then pick it up again and read. In this book, there are eleven different stories. Louis L'Amour tells how he often finds a character when writing short stories that he later will use again for an entire novel. There are a few of those in this book. Killkenny becomes a character in several L'Amour novels. As usual, when reading short stories, some will be really interesting and others might be quite boring. Both of these can be found in this book. It is worth your time to pick up a copy and read Dutchman's Flat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not A Dramatized Version, July 10, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dutchman's Flat (Audio Cassette)
Despite this not being dramatized Cat Parker does a good job of characterization, making it easy to keep the characters straight. The audio is crisp and clear and easily understood in a car environment. The stories are entertaining. Unlike the reviews above the stories printed above this is what I found (from the back cover):

Dutchman's Flat - Six angry men chase the winner of a brutal gun-fight. In the frustrating, insulting and dangerous days that follow, each learns the startling truth about the man they're goint to lynch.

His Brother's Debt - Cassidy can draw faster than a snake can strike. So why is he afraid to leave the back country? Because he has to avoid his demons - if they'll let him.

I found both stories to be great, but it would have been nice to at least add some special effects. Well worth the purchase price. One cassette. Run time: 1 hour.
