Absolutely mesmerizing is how to describe the music of Kent. Forget about understanding Swedish, that's the sheer brilliance of their music. You know what the songs try to convey and lead singer Joakim Berg exudes so much feeling and emotion that you're moved by one song after the other. The first five tracks of "Du & Jag Doden", in my opinion, are the best first five tracks of any album, hands down. If you still need to hear English lyrics to grasp their music, check out "Isola" and "Hagnesta Hill" as a sampler. You'll be floored as to why they've been so obscure in the Britpop scene, even though they're not British. Then take a chance with their following releases in Swedish, "Vapen and Ammunition" and of course "Du & Jag Doden". Absolutely mesmerizing. It's heartbreaking to know that they might never tour the US and I've had to contemplate a trip to Norway or Sweden in order to see them at least once in my life. But don't deprive yourself of music that may turn into the soundtrack of your life. It's become my soundtrack and will always be.

I have been a Kent fan since Isola and own all releases from Verkligen to now. Du & Jag Doden is an incredible cd, in my opinion their best. It may take a little longer to absorb than other Kent cd's. If you are taking a road trip then this is the perfect cd. It's been said a million times before, but I'll say it anyway: Don't be turned off buying this album because of the Swedish vocals.

I feel compel to write a review because I want people to know what a great band they are. I've been a fan since their Isola album and I own all their full length albums. "Du & jag döden" means "You and I Death", and it took me about two listens to fall in love with it.

Palace & Main and Max 500 are the rockin' standout singles no doubt, though my new favorites on the album are the quieter Den Döda Vinkeln and Klåparen. Do not let this CD cover deceive you, this is not punk/goth/metal. If you like melody driven guitar based music, do check out this band.

This album is simply remarkable. Don't get all hung up on the language, after all, no one ever complains that they can't understand a single thing Sigur Ros or the Cocteau Twins sing! It's all beautiful music that deserves as much airplay as bands like Coldplay, Radiohead & U2. Get it, listen to it and hum along!

I've had this cd for a few days now and after a few listens the songs are really starting to sink in.It means absolutely nothing that the lyrics are in Swedish.As the last reviewer said,don't let this stop you from getting this cd.
So far i still like "Vapen & Ammunition" better,but time will tell.

I have enjoyed this band since 1997's Isola! Hagastina Hill has been the standard for which all groups should strive for. There is not a bad song on that album. I did not follow this band past Hagastina Hill because of the non-English music. What a huge mistake!!!! Du & Jag Doden is simply mind blowing and shows how a band can just get better and better! The Swedish language is not even an issue and I highly recommend this for any music enthusiast. This album has been in my music rotation since I purchased it and will never leave the rotation. It leaves a smile on my face every time I listen. Do not miss the experience this CD will take you on.... a must buy!!!!!

If you read the other reviews you'll see nothing but positive comments. This is no conspiracy, no coincidence - this is simply an awesome album. As you listen from start to finish you expect there to be the occasional misstep among the good songs. Let's face it, even our favorite albums have a track or two that we skip. Listening to "Du & Jag Doden" there is no such misstep, it's one rock-solid song after the other. Kent has improved with each album to the point where they are now one of the best bands around. Who knows where they could be now if their last couple of albums had been released in English.

Bottom line is if you listen to bands like Coldplay, Radiohead, The Verve, Travis or even Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Verve and U2 you will definitely like Kent. If you're considering buying this album, well... do it. If you want to save a few $$$ you can get this album from Amazon.co.uk for about $20. It's well worth it.

I have little to say that the other reviewers haven't covered: this is a fantastic album musically. truely top notch, and I'm listening to it constantly in my car. and really, you don't have to know Sweedish to appreciate it because I certainly do not.

highlights of the album if you're looking for singles are 400 slag, Palace & Main, and Romeo Återvänder Ensam (the best track on the album...play it loud from the top)

This is an awesome CD! It is too bad that they never caught on in the U.S. (which is the main reason why they never bothered to release this album or any subsequent ones with the lyrics in English). I love every song on this album but some standouts are "400 slag", Palace & Main, Järnspöken, and Mannen i den vita hatten (16 år senare). Other great albums by Kent are "Vapen & Ammunition" (my first exposure to Kent, and it was love right away :), Isola, Hagnesta Hill and the latest one, Tillbaka till Samtiden. Check Kent out, you will not be disappointed.

This is one of those VERY few CDs that have a good balance of songs, that is, everything flows together and no songs feel like fillers; all the songs are top notch. This is my favorite Kent album. I don't need to speak Svenska (Swedish) to appreciate Kent's amazing music. I highly recommend this CD to anyway who enjoys good music, no matter in what language it is.
