3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting conducting, problematic sound, October 26, 2004

This review is from: Dvorák: Symphony No. 9 "From the New World"; Carnival Overture; Scherzo Capriccioso; Smetana: The Moldau (Audio CD)
I enjoyed this recording very much. However, one must be warned that not all tracks on this CD are of the same quality. The Carnival Overture is taken from a recording of very poor quality. It still amazes me that it was made in 1949. Then 1929 version of the New World Symphony is far superior. It is cleanest sounding selection on this CD. The other tracks are muddy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sound is not so great., June 25, 2001

Be aware that this is an collection of historical recordings from 1927 - 1948. If you like listening to recordings that are over 50 years old then you may enjoy this album. Otherwise avoid it. Naxos "studio" recordings of Dvorak and Smetana would do the composers greater justice than this disc.
