The Cecilia String Quartet's performance of the Dvorak Quartet No. 13 in G Major is inspired and passionate. The performance detail is a revelation, and the Cecilia's rendering is sonically supurb. This performance shows why the Cecilia String Quartet was the "hands-down" winner of the 2010 Banff International String Quartet Competition. The CD also contains (6) beautifully performed Dvorak "Cypresses" as well as (2) of the Op. 54 waltzes. If you're already a fan of Dvorak string music this recording will delight you. If you're not already a fan, this recording may convert you. Highly recommended!

In an astounding oversight, the Canadian produced release of this recording does not list the names of all the Cecilia String Quartet's members. Min-Jeong and Sarah are only mentioned because they perform on violins which are on loan from patrons and were acknowledging those instrument loans.

For the record, the members of the Cecilia String Quartet are:
Min-Jeong Koh, violin
Sarah Nematallah, violin
Caitlin Boyle, viola
Rachel Desoer, cello

Full bios are available at the Cecilia String Quartet's extensive website. [...]

Interestingly, the CD liner notes do list the Producer, Executive Producer, Production Manager, Graphic Designer, Assistant Managers, Photographer, and (4) Assistant Engineers & Editors AND the company contracted to do the proofreading. However, whoever read the final proofs never noticed that the Quartet members were not identified!

It's a shame that the Quartet members are not all mentioned by name in the liner notes or on the tray card, but it does not detract from the outstanding performance in any way.

I've listened to this a million times and love it. Nothing, of course, compares to a live performance by the Cecilias - they are so dynamic in person and their love of what they are doing comes through - but since I can't hear them "on demand", this is the next best thing. I highly recommend it.

Well, "rocks" in this context may be somewhat misstating the case... but how else can I get across the passion, the energy, the life and the precision of Cecilia's work here? Well recorded, dynamic, resonant, I leave my listening seat energized and marveling at this level of vitality, intensity, and exquisite (to my ears) musicianship. Though I am no musician or even (I confess) much of a fan of classical music, I am knocked out by these performances.
