5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Cow!!!, May 12, 2007

This review is from: Dvorak Requiem / Neumann, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra (DVD)
I have always thought Dvorak's Requiem was a very underrated piece. I fell in love with this piece after catching a performance in a cathedral in the UK, in the mid 90s. This recording is possibly even better than the two other CD recorings I own on CD. Conducting, singing, sound quality...this DVD has it all. Don't imagine for one second that this all Czech Orchestra, Choir and conductor is in any way inferior to other Orchestras out there.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, January 4, 2010

This review is from: Dvorak Requiem / Neumann, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra (DVD)
Unfortunately I ordered this before the other DVD with Popp, Randova, Pso and Altrichter (from Product Details) or Popp, Randova, Protschka and Mikules (from the cover) was released. Would that I had waited another week or two,

This is a recording from 1988 and its age shows with less than stellar audio and frequent camera cuts. Josef Protschka is the best of the soloists. Gabriella Benackova seems to be having an off night. The other two soloists were undistinguished, to be as charitable as I can. The chorus and orchestra might have sounded better if the DVD had been remastered.

I am sure that the new release will be much better. I would hate to think that it could be worse.
