Product Description

Easy-to-grow, this abundant producer of sweet medium-sized fruit has performed exceptionally well in pots yielding several crops per year even during the first season. If grown in pots, they are continuous producers cycling in and out of flower and fruit when given warm temperatures and adequate light.

We're hopeful that we'll be able to grow this plant to maturity and will eventually be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

It never grew any taller, and it finally died this week ( first week in September.)

When I was a boy, my Great-Grandfather told me that everyone makes mistakes. He said that one of the things that separates those with character from the rest was what they did when they recognized their mistakes. The best people and companies focus on doing things right the first time and correcting the occassional, inevitable mistakes promptly. The worst are sloppy, ignore their mistakes and fail to correct them.

Evidence suggests that my Great-Grandfather would approve of Hirt's Gardens. Our first Mulberry order was puny, sickly and on death's door when it arrived. Frankly, it was a mistake that never should have been shipped. When we contacted Hirt's with our complaint and pictures of the plant, they promptly acknowledged their mistake and refunded our money. However, we still wanted a Mulberry plant so we ordered again. The second time, Hirt's got it right. They promptly sent us a healthy and robust looking plant that was over 9" tall upon arrival. We're hopeful that we'll be able to grow this plant to maturity and will eventually be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Had Hirt's gotten it right the first time and/or enclosed value-added instructions about how to care for and grow the Mulberry (as requested) and, perhaps, basic information about the plant (like how much sun they need, how long it will take before the plant grows fruit, etc.) we'd have rated this as a five star product performance. Unfortunately, Hirt's didn't do either, so 4 Stars is the best we could honestly do. (After all, they're in the expert gardening business, we're not.)

8/6/13: We've added a star because: (1) The 2nd tree has really thrived. (2) We think that the comments on our initial review contain pearls of wisdom.

Bought two a couple of months ago--one for the front yard and one for the back. They were small when I put them in the ground (February--central Fl) but they're already a couple of feet tall and are growing like weeds. I hope they turn into (dwarf) monsters!

I received a cup of soil. There is literally nothing coming out of the soil. I wrote and they said it is dormant and will sprout in 8 weeks. Really?

Not happy at all. They were not Mulberry plants. They were Mulberry cuttings pushed down into a 4" pot of potting soil.
No root system at all. I'm keeping them watered, don't know if they're going to make it or not. My thinking for them to be classified a plant there would have to be a root ball.

Plant arrived in excellent condition. It was a reasonable size for a 4" pot. After acclimatizing it for a few days, I transplanted into a 1 gal. pot. Now, just a few weeks later, it's starting to sprout out in several different places. I've even seen what may be a small fruit. This plant is definitely a winner.
